THAT Report FD-5 be received; 2.) THAT consideration be given for the installation of community mail boxes on the Newcastle Village Fire Station site. 1. BACRGRDUND 1.1. On June 18, 1990, we received a phone call from Mr. Hlacquiere from Canada Post advising that they are installing community mail boxes throughout Newcastle Village. 1.2 Mr. Blacquiere advised that they have been unable to locate an area in the eastern end of the village where they could install a community mail box. 1.3 The request was made,on., his part, to consider the possibility of allowing Canada Post to install this community mail box on the site of Fire Station #2 on Ring Street East. 1.4 I advised Mr. Blacquiere that he would be required to submit a request in writing to the Town for consideration. This letter was received on June 21, 1990, (attached). Page 2/FD-5 2. COMMENTS 2.1 After consideration of the request from Canada Post, I would advise that the installation of a community mail box on this site would cause no difficulty to this department under certain conditions. (1) That the boxes be installed in the northeast corner of the property in a manner that does not restrict in any way, the visibility of vehicles leaving the station. (2) That vehicular traffic on the station ~2 site, from people picking up their mail in no way affects fire- fighters responding to the station in emergency situations. 3. CONCLUSION 3.1 It is, therefore, respectfully recommended that this report be received, and consideration be given to allowing Canada Post to install community mail boxes on the Station t2 property in Newcastle Village. Respectfully Submitted, -__LY,_--- -` - --- Michas ~~~~~~'~ 1 G. Creighton, Fire Chief. kb Recommended for presentation to Committee, ------------ Lawrence E. Rotseff, Chief Administrative Officer.
