2. PRESENTATION
Carlo Pellarin, Manager of Community Planning and Design, and Rick Pigeon,
Chief Building Official, gave power point presentations on how the Planning
Services Department and the Building Division are involved with issues of
accessibility (a copy of the presentation is attached to the minutes).
Leslie Benson, Manager of Transportation and Design, gave a short presentation
on the Engineering Services Department and it’s involvement with accessibility in
regards to the design of road rights-of-way, sidewalks, traffic signals and
signage. The Engineering Services Department currently requires that drop
curbs be put in for all new construction of sidewalks and sidewalk replacements.
Engineering is also in charge of the municipality’s transit system and Leslie
informed the committee that the buses that the municipality owns are “kneel
down” buses that can lower their front ends to enhance accessibility. In the
future, low-floor buses that are completely wheelchair accessible will be looked
into. Bus stops are scheduled to be improved by ensuring that continuous
hardtop exists between the sidewalk and the bus stop platform.

Director, Community Services Department, regarding the request for disable

attend and may encourage weak skaters to attend at a time when they know that
