ADOPTION OF MINUTES Moved by Sandra Crandall, seconded by Norman Hannan THAT the minutes of the meeting held on September 8, 2005 be approved. CARRIED 2. SET BACK BY-LAW – PLANNING SERVICES DEPARTMENT In response to questions raised at the September 8, 2005 meeting, Carlo Pellarin, Manager, Development Review was in attendance to provide an explanation of the Municipality's zoning by-law requirements related to setbacks from the streetscape. He advised that a homeowner has the option of applying to the Committee of Adjustment if the setback requirement cannot be met. The fee for a Committee of Adjustment application is currently $450, however, it is possible for staff to review this matter in relation to the construction of accessible entrances. Mr. Pellarin indicated that he would contact other municipalities to determine if they allow exceptions. Clarington Accessibility - 2 - October 13, 2005 Advisory Committee 3. ONTARIANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT Sandra Crandall provided a report from the AccessOntario conference she attending, highlighting the following areas: ? Accessible Transportation ? Accessible Employment ? Accessible Housing ? Site Plan Review ? Children with Disabilities/Finance and Taxation Issues/Sports and Recreation ? Accessibility Advisory Committees 4. FOLLOW-UP OF CLARINGTON ACCESSIBILITY BUSINESS COMMUNITY CHALLENGE Discussion ensued as to the format of the certificates the Committee wishes to present to the businesses that took part in the Accessibility Business Community Challenge. Certificates will be drafted and brought to the next meeting for discussion and approval. 5. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION a) Durham Regional Vision Centre – Deborah Wilson has opened a new business in Courtice providing services for low vision and blind clients. She has requested an opportunity to address the Committee. Patti Barrie will contact her to determine her availability for the next meeting, November 3. b) DISPLAY MATERIAL FOR BOOTHS AT LOCAL EVENTS Patti Barrie will provide pricing information and a draft brochure at the next regularly scheduled meeting. c) CAPability CONFERENCE The Durham Region Employment Network and Industry Canada are organizing the CAPability Conference on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at the Scugog Community Centre. Patti will register herself and David Kelly. 6. OTHER BUSINESS Patti Barrie advised the Committee that Candice Doiran has accepted a position with the Township of Cramahe. DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting is scheduled to be held on November 3, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. in Meeting Room 1A at the Municipal Administrative Centre. 8.
