ADOPTION OF MINUTES Moved by Keith Brettell, seconded by Sandra Crandall THAT the minutes of the meeting held on March 2, 2006 be approved. CARRIED 2. ITEMS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES a) Bowmanville Home Show The Accessibility Committee’s booth is #59 and set up for the show is Thursday, April 20, 2006 from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Friday, April 21, 2006 between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon. The Committee will meet at the show to set up on Thursday, April 20, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. Schedule for the booth: Friday Sandra 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. David Spare Saturday David 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Keith & Councillor Foster 2:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Norm Spare Sunday David & Keith 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Councillor Foster & Darlene 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Norm Spare Clarington Accessibility - 2 - April 6, 2006 Advisory Committee Patti advised five display screens will be available from Jennifer Cooke, Communications & Marketing, for the show. Patti displayed the new Accessibility Committee’s banner and indicated that she will have the Clarington Accessibility Advisory Committee pamphlets available for the home show. Darlene Matthews will supply the back-drop screen for the booth. Keith Brettrell has collected numerous pamphlets/information from different agencies and will drop it off at the home show at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday for set up (Keith is not available for set up due to a previous commitment). David Kelly, Chair, advised Jeremy Booker will not be available to attend the home show to sign hockey cards as originally thought. b) Maplefest and Applefest Events Dates of the Events: Maplefest May 6, 2006 Applefest October 14, 2006. Cheryl Tennisco will confirm the details for Maplefest – cost and set up time and Councillor Foster will speak with Jennifer Cooke regarding usage of a tent for booth. 3. 2006 RICK HANSEN EVENT Councillor Foster reported the following update of the committee for the 2006 Rick Hansen Event: ? Entertainment and the pre-event are awaiting confirmation; ? The Dinner has been cancelled; ? Tim Hick advised the committee has altered the process for administering funds raised from the event. He could not confirm the funds would remain in the community; and ? Sponsorship is required for the cost of the Port a Potty - approximately $500.00 – 600.00. Tim Hick suggested the committee look for a sponsor to supply the generator – Greg Leavitt “Clarington Pro Sound”. The size of the generator required is to be confirmed. Clarington Accessibility - 3 - April 6, 2006 Advisory Committee The committee will distribute pledge forms, for the Rick Hansen Event, at the Maplefest Event on May 6, 2006. 4. 2006 REGIONAL ACCESSIBILITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE – JOINT MEETING David Kelly confirmed he will be attending the Joint Accessibility Advisory Meeting on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at the Centennial Building in Whitby. 5. SITE PLAN APPROVAL – DUNBURY DEVELOPMENTS (GREEN) LTD. The Committee reviewed the site plans/drawings – no comments. 6. BIA EVENTS – HANDICAP PARKING A map outlining disabled parking locations in the Downtown area was distributed. The map included proposed new disabled parking locations for events in the Downtown area. The terminology of “disabled” was discussed. In future, “disabled” should be replaced with “accessible”. Councillor Foster suggested a “Thank You” letter be forwarded to Ron Hooper, BIA, for their support of the committee. Norman advised the committee that he has spoken with Norm Clark, Engineering, regarding the grooves in the existing sidewalks. Norm Clark noted Engineering will address the issue in the construction of future sidewalks in Clarington. 7. OTHER BUSINESS Accessible Sidewalks at Intersection Councillor Foster reported on Wilma Paul’s article in the Toronto Star – “Freedom of Scooter” regarding the difficulties encountered by scooter users entering buildings and riding on sidewalks constructed out of inter-locking bricks. Councillor Foster has been in contact with Ms. Paul and has invited her to sit on the Accessibility Committee. Invitation to an Accessibility Forum Patti advised the committee that the Accessibility Forum will be held on Monday, May 8, 2006 at the Bobby Orr Lounge, Oshawa Civic Auditorium Complex. Registration/Meet and Greet is from 8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and the Presentations will follow from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The cost is $25.00 and lunch and refreshments will be provided. DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting is scheduled to be held on May 4, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. in Meeting Room 1A at the Municipal Administrative Centre. 9.
