MEETING ROOM 1A Present: David Kelly, Chair (arrived at 6:50 p.m.) Tim Hick (arrived at 6:20 p.m.) Keith Brettell Sally Barrie Councillor Ron Hooper Absent: Darlene Matthews Norman Hannan Also Present: Patti Barrie, Municipal Clerk Ellen Atkinson, Recording Secretary ADOPTION OF MINUTES 1. Corrections to be made on the following pages; Page 1 Tom Hicks should be Tim Hick Page 2 Hicks should be Hick Moved by Keith Brettell, seconded by Tim Hick THAT the minutes of the meeting held on October 3, 2007 be approved, as corrected. “CARRIED” PRESENTATIONS 2. Richard Holy and Rick Pigeon assisted the Committee with site plan reviews, including landscaping, elevation, lighting or concept, etc., and advised the Committee what to look for and what is expected. Rick informed the Committee of various regulations that are contained in the Building Code and he assured the Committee that all drawings are made to conform to the Building Code. Richard Holy informed the Committee of the recommendations that the Planning Department is looking for when the Accessibility Advisory Committee reviews the plans submitted. ITEMS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES 3. a) Copy of the letter sent to David Kelly regarding the Committee’s recommendation for the Accessible Playground was reviewed. Clarington Accessibility - 2 - December 5, 2007 Advisory Committee b) Patti informed the Committee the letter received from Caroline Weber, Director General from the Office for Disability Issues, Government of Canada did not address/answer the issues from the letter sent to her. Councillor Hooper stated the Town of Whitby endorsed this request at their last Council meeting. Patti will follow up and advise the Committee if any changes or letters are received regarding the gas station requests at the next meeting. NEW BUSINESS 4. a) Patti attended training on Customer Service Standard Compliance for Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities and she informed the Committee the government agencies must comply with this Regulation by the year 2010 and all other businesses must be in compliance by the year 2012. Patti provided the Committee with a copy of the Regulation. Tim suggested that the Board of Trade be contacted to see if they could offer any help to businesses to comply with the new standards. OTHER BUSINESS 5. Patti advised the Committee of the dates for the Regional Accessibility Advisory Committee Chair meetings for 2008. She also informed the Committee nominations for the AAC awards must be submitted by January 15, 2008 and the Gala is scheduled for March 19, 2008. Patti informed the Committee that a request for an accessible parking space on Main Street in Orono, directly in front of the IDA Drug Store has been received. This being a Regional road, the request was forwarded to the Region of Durham, who has replied that the spot looked appropriate and they will look into implementing this next spring. Tim Hick spoke regarding the lack of power doors on the northern doors at the Rickard Recreation Complex and the unilock bricks have sunken making it very difficult for wheelchairs, walkers and strollers. Councillor Ron Hooper spoke regarding the snow piles on King Street in Bowmanville and the fact that they are not ploughed to the point that wheelchairs can get across the street without difficulty. Councillor Hooper has asked the Operations Department to ensure the roads downtown will have the snow ploughed right back to the sidewalks. DATE OF NEXT MEETING 6.
