ORONO FAIRGROUNDS Present: David Kelly, Chair Keith Brettell Norman Hannan Sally Barrie Councillor Ron Hooper Absent: Darlene Matthews Tim Hick Also Present: Patti Barrie, Municipal Clerk Ellen Atkinson, Recording Secretary Councillor Gord Robinson ADOPTION OF MINUTES 1. Moved by Norman Hannan, seconded by Keith Brettell THAT the minutes of the meeting held on June 6, 2007 and Special Meeting of June 27, 2007 be approved. “CARRIED” DELEGATIONS 2. Councillor Robinson thanked the Committee for coming to the Orono Fairgrounds and he would welcome any input that the Committee has in regards to accessibility issues. ITEMS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES 3. a) Patti Barrie will check with the Building Division in regards to the creation of a checklist which the Committee can use when performing accessibility inspections/site reviews. Patti will report back to the Committee at the next meeting. NEW BUSINESS 4. a) The Committee performed a site review of the Orono Fairgrounds; overall the Committee felt the fairgrounds were in good shape. They did, however, have a few suggestions (please see attached list) which were submitted to Councillor Gord Robinson for his implementation, if possible. Clarington Accessibility - 2 - September 5, 2007 Advisory Committee b) A brochure sent to the Committee from the Accessibility Advisory Committee of The Township of Uxbridge requesting volunteers to participate in their Barrier Free Day on September 26, 2007, was discussed. If any member is interested, they should get in touch with Patti Barrie. OTHER BUSINESS 5. a) David Kelly suggested that the Practical Guide for Organizers of Public Events be distributed to all event organizers for implementation of the suggestions during setup. The Committee would like to see site inspections/reviews mandatory prior to an event. b) A suggestion was put forth that the Committee look into requesting that the firefighters create/build a ramp for the “Learn Not To Burn” trailer that would be permanent and easy to use. Patti Barrie will investigate and advise the Committee if the Municipality has the means to build a ramp for the trailer. DATE OF NEXT MEETING 5. The next meeting is scheduled for October 3, 2007. ADJOURNMENT 6. Moved by Norman Hannan, seconded by Keith Brettell THAT the meeting be adjourned.
