Attendance taken. 2. Meeting called to order at 9:00 a.m. Chaired by Karen 3. Approval of October Minutes: Motion to accept: Karen Bastas Seconded: Janeen Calder 4. Business Arising from Minutes: n/a 5. Council Report - Wendy Partner Wendy was unable to attend the BIA meeting but did send a message to the BIA. "Please pass on my thanks to the BIA for all that they do to make Newcastle the vibrant village it is! Keep up the great work!" 6. President's Report: n/a 7. Treasurer's Report: As of October 31, the bank balance is $14,932.00. There are lots of events happening in the next month, we need to watch our expenses. 8. Committee Reports: Safety & Decor: After Sunday the 11 th the banners are coming down, the wreaths are going up and the scouts are doing the garland all before Friday's Winter Wonder Lights event and the Parade on Sunday. Theresa received two quotes from New Blooms and the Garden Path, for the new planters at Beaver Street. The Garden Path will remove the flowers and fill them with Christmas greenery for $700. We will add this expense to the budget for 2019. Troy Foster will be looking after the snow removal on the sidewalks again this year. He will do the initial clear BUT it is the responsibly of the business owners to make sure your store front is clear and salted to avoid any slip and falls that can make you liable. There is a salt shortage this year, so get yours now!! Advertising: Our likes on Facebook continue to go up, we have 1277 likes, that is up 65 in the past month. The posts have reached 17,000. Top trending posts this month were the Newcastles of the World, No Frills BBQ, Newfie Night in support of the Hospice, Winter Wonder Lights event, Parade Volunteers Needed, Remembrance Day Service Information. The website had 2800 views. People were searching for Remembrance Day info and Santa Parade info. Organic posts (not shared posts) reaches are higher. If you want to post something on the Village of Newcastle Facebook page send it to Donna at villageofnewcastle@gmail.com Special Events: a) Town Hall Lighting - The lights are going up on Monday the 12th. They have collected $2200 in sponsored funds. A choir of approx. 30 people will be performing on the stairs of the Town Hall. A map of the businesses offering free activities will be handed out that evening. Businesses are encouraged to decorate your storefront (in the starry night theme) to be entered into the "best window display" contest. Photos will be on Facebook for the community to vote on between December 1-16th. b) Breakfast with Santa- November 24th is ready! The Hall is booked for next year for November 30, 2019. The Vatandoust/Mazar team will not be running the event next year, but there are interested groups that will take it over. c) Santa Parade - November 18th. The committee has been fundraising with a recent paint night, they had 45 people attend. So far 14 trees have been sold, there are still trees available if you are still thinking about getting one to decorate with your team/office. They will be on display from November 16-December 16th at the Diane Hamre Centre. The draw for the winners will be in the Lions Den on December 16th. Karen motioned that the BIA purchase a tree to include in the festival of trees. Leslie Seconded. The parade committee extends a motion to the Newcastle BIA to financially support the parade for a minimum of $2000 annually. The BIA will consider this when the 2019 budget is put in place. 9. CBOT: Tanya reported that the Clarington Board of Trade has had some successful events in the last month; Raising Your Business Luncheon was a great event attended by 20 people, Breakfast with Kim Rudd, B2B Summit. Upcoming events; Energy Summit - November 28th, Christmas Cocktails - December 13th. Please check their website if you are interested in attending any of these events and to learn more. 10. Chamber News: Upcoming event; January Breakfast Meeting - its a great opportunity to network with local businesses. 11. CIP: The new budget for grants will be released in January. The old Busters has plans to separate the space with a possible Spring 2019 occupancy. 12. New Business: Newcastle Massage Therapy is having their Grand Opening on November 24th from 3-7pm. Drop in and check out their new space, the old Some Like it Hot building. 13. Next meeting, Thursday December 14th, 2018 @ 9:00am 14.
