The meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m. 1. Committee Member Status Updates Erica Mittag provided an update that Dorothy Koziorz had to resign from her position as a youth member on the Committee due to school commitments and relocation to Toronto. The Municipality of Clarington's Clerks Department has posted for a youth position which closes October 25, 2019. 2. Land Acknowledgement Update The report recommending the use of a Land Acknowledgement Statement that was considered by Council and referred back to staff will be considered at the October 15, 2019 General Government Committee meeting. Clarington's Heritage Committee has invited Erica Mittag to speak at their October 15 meeting to provide an update and some background on a Land Acknowledgement Statement. 3. Survey Update and Discussion The Survey Working Group met over the summer months and created a draft survey. Erica Mittag confirmed with the Municipality of Clarington's Communications Division that they will be able to support the initiative by housing the survey online and promotion of the survey. They have also offered to assist with the wording of the survey. A meeting has been scheduled for Thursday October 17 for the Working Group members to meet with the Communications representative. 4. Community Updates Erica Mittag provided the following updates: Her portfolio has been changed to include a focus on Diversity and Inclusion and her title has changed to Community Development Coordinator, Diversity and Inclusion. The Diversity Advisory Committee received communication from Council (shared previously by email) regarding Orange Shirt Day. The Bawaajigewin Aboriginal Community Circle will be hosting an information booth on Monday September 30 from 10am-1:30pm at the Courtice Community Complex — 2950 Courtice Road North. All are invited to stop by. The Accessibility Advisory Committee has reserved a booth space at the upcoming Applefest Event being held Saturday October 19 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the downtown Bowmanville area along King Street. They have invited us to partner with them to host the booth. The booth will have an interactive trivia game with prizes and giveaways provided by the Accessibility Advisory Committee. Erica will forward a schedule for the day to seek out volunteers who can help host the booth. The Town of Ajax is hosting their annual Diversity Xchange on Saturday November 16. The event is free and open to all Durham Region residents. Local municipal diversity staff representatives have been invited to speak at a panel discussion; Erica will be representing the Municipality of Clarington. All are invited to attend. The Municipality of Clarington's Community Services Department is hosting a training for a team of their staff on Monday September 30. Three speakers will be coming to share information about Religious Inclusion in the workplace, Orange Shirt Day and Invisible Disability awareness.
