CLERK'S REPORT NO.: CD-6-81
SUBJECT: Bowmanville Creek Valley Lands

Progress Report
Our File: 16.7.104
RECOPIMENDATION:
It is recommended that this report be received for information.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS:
On Monday, June 29th, 1981, Council gave consideration to a request
by the Bowmanville Creek Anglers Association for permission to undertake
the clean-up of the Bowmanville Creek Valley lands.
Subsequently, Council enacted Resolution #C-730-81 approving the
application and authorizing the Mayor and Clerk to execute a memorandum of
agreement with the Association to permit the clean-up activity.
The effectiveness of the program has been discussed with Mr. David
Lawson, President of the Association and he indicated that the group was
satisifed with the results to date. He indicated, that during the summer,
members removed a considerable quantity of scrap materials of all kinds
from the creek. The undertaking improved both the safety of the water area
for Anglers and at the same time improved the general appearance of the
creek.
In addition, the members carried out a reforestation program and
on September 21st, 1981, planted one hundred evergreens (donated by
Mr. David Boyle of Tyrone) in the creek valley. It is hoped, that these
will assist in stabalizing the soil and reduce erosion.
Mr. Lawson has indicated, that the next major project will be the
removal of certain trees that have been marked by C.L.O.C.A. staff. For
Council's information, the tree removal project will be carried out by
