REPORT NO.: CD-5-81 SUBJECT: Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 178 ,Request for permission to hold a raffle lottery Our File: 56.12.5 RECOMMENDATION: It is respecfully recommended: 1. THAT this report be received; and 2. THAT Council approve the request of Branch 178, The Royal Canadian Legion and authorize the Clerk to issue a letter stating that the .Town of Newcastle has no objection to the issuing of a lottery licence by Lotteries Branch, Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations; and 3. THAT the Royal Canadian Legion, c/o Mr. Stan L. Dunn, Chairman, legion Lottery, 109 King Street East, Bowmanville, be so advised. BACKGROUND: On October 5th, 1981, Branch 178, the Royal. Canadian Legion, 109 King Street East, submitted a lottery licence application together with a letter detailing the manner in which the lottery, if approved, would be managed. Mr. Stan Dunn, Chairman, Legion Lottery is requesting that Council approve the application and authorize the issuing of a letter indicating that the Council of the Town of Newcastle "has no objection to the issuing of a Provincial Lottery Licence to Branch 178, The Royal Canadian Legion." The Legion has managed this type of lottery in the past and Council has always given its approval. The Clerk's Department has examined the application, and would recommend its approval.
