SUBJECT: West Beach Area, Special Clean-Up Project
August 18th to August 21st, 1981. Phase I

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that this report be received for information.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
On July 6th, 1981, the Planning and Development Committee gave
consideration to two reports relating to the West Beach area:-
(1) West Beach Area - Phase I
Short Term Solution
(2) West Beach Area - Phase II
Long Term Program for the
Redevelopment of West Beach
Planning and Development Confidential
Report P-131-81.
Phase I, the special clean-up was considered by the Committee and
approved. Accordingly, the special program was undertaken during the
period of August 18th to August 21st, 1981, inclusive. The work force on
site consisted of Public Works and C.L.O.C.A. employees. The clean-up
project was not as effective as anticipated, notwithstanding the announcement
of the program in the newspaper and the door to door distribution of a
letter.
The estimated cost of the program was $5,000.00. Owing to the
lack of response by the area residents, the final costs totalled $1,777.99.

It is appropriate that the Town proceed with Phase II, and in
that regard, it is my understanding that Planning Staff will be preparing
