BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
A petition, dated October 9, 1981, signed by seven people, has been
received. Mrs. Lois Edwards, the spokesperson for the group has requested
that the Town give consideration to the upgrading of the school crossing
from a crosswalk, to a controlled crossing.
The request was referred to Durham Regional Police for investigation on
October 27, 1981. By memorandum dated November 5, 1981, Community Services
Officer, Constable D.A. Anderson, submitted the following report and
recommendations for consideration.
Constable Anderson reported that the volume of vehicular and pedestrian
activity has increased significantly at the Ontario StreetPublic School.
He has recommended, (a) that the present crosswalk remain in its present
configuration, and;
(b) that an adult crossing guard be introduced to
regulate the traffic flows during peak periods. ~''
