HomeMy WebLinkAbout1752A By-law to authorize the payment of an annual allowance, and an allowance for expenses for Members of Council.
WHEREAS it is deemed advisable to provide the head of Council and the
members of Council faith an annual allowance and an allowance for expenses,
and
WHEREAS The Municipal Act, Revised Statutes of Ontario 1970, Chapter
284, Section 211 and amendments thereto provides that the head of the Council
may be paid such annual or other renuneration as the Council may determine,
and
WHEREAS Section 389 (1) of the said Act provides that a Council may pass
by-laws for paying the members of Council such annual allowance as Council
may determine, and
WHEREAS Section 391 provides for the payment of such expenses or allor~-
ances for the members thereof as may be approved by the Council of the
Municipality.
NOW THEREFORE, The Council of The Township of Clarke, in accordance with
the provisions of Chapter 284 of The Municipal Act, R.S.O. 1970 and amend-
ments thereto, hereby enacts as follows;
(1) The Head of Council shall be paid an annual remuneration of $2,500.00
effective January 1st, 1973•
(2) The Deputy Reeve shall be paid an annual remuneration of $1,200.00
effective January 1st, 1973•
(3) Members of Council shall be paid an annual remuneration of $1,000.00
effective January 1st, 1973•
(4) In addition to the annual aemuneration, as set out in paragraphs 1, 2
and 3, the Head and members of Council shall be paid a fee for any
meetings pertaining to Township business held outside of The Municipality
of The Township of Clarke at the rate of $30.00 per day or part day thereof.
(5) In addition tv paragraph 4, the Head and members of Council shall be
paid for transportation incurred in the conduct of Towsship affairs at
the following rates.
(ij $.15 per mile travelled to any point within 100 miles of Clarke
Township.
(ii) Mileage to any point in excess of 100 miles shall be at the rate
of public transportation, providing that expenses are not being
paid by other Municipal or Government Department.
(iii) Convention expenses shall be approved by Council.
(6) The remuneration set out in paragraphs 1, 2 and 3 shall be paid semi-
annually in two equal instalments.
The first instalment shall be paid between the 15th and 30th day of
June of each year, and
The second instalment shall be paid between the 15th and 30th day of
November of each year.

(7) In accordance with Section 392 of the said Act, one-third of the
remuneration or other allowance received by each member of Council shall
be deemed to be for expenses incident to the discharge of his duties
as a member of the Council.
(8) That By-Law No. 1721 of The Township of Clarke be .and is hereby repealed.
(9) This By-Law shall come into force and effect upon the date of the final
reading thereof.
