Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report CD-56-96 be received;
2. THAT Council make the following appointments to the Animal Advisory
Committee:
- 3 Community Representatives
- 1 Veterinarian
- 1 Representative from Durham Animal Adoption
- 1 Representative from the Canadian Association of Zoological Parks and
Aquariums
- Senior Animal Control Officer or alternate
- Deputy Clerk or alternate; and
- 1 Council Member
3. THAT the applicants be advised of Council's decision.
1. BACKGROUND
1.1 On July 8, 1996, Council approved the formation of an Animal Advisory
Committee, subject to review by Council after nine months.

1.2 Staff waited until the end of the summer to place the advertisements to allow all
residents who were away on vacation an opportunity to read and respond to the
ad. Subsequently, an advertisement was placed in the Statesman, the
Independent and the Orono Times for two weeks (Attachment #1). A letter was
also sent to all the local veterinarians, the Bowmanville Zoo and the Orono Jungle
Cat World to determine their interest in being a member of the Animal Advisory
Committee (Attachment #2).
2. RECOMMENDATIONS
2.1 The responses and applications for appointment to the Animal Advisory
Committee have been distributed confidentially under separate cover and it is
recommended that Council make the necessary appointments to the Animal
Advisory Committee.

the formation of an Animal Advisory Committee subject to
review alter nine months. The composition of this
committee will include the appointment o(3 citizens who
will volunteer to assist and support the Animal Control
Services Staff to enhance the care of the animals under
our supervision. Meetings will be held monthly during
business hours. If you are interested in being considered
for appointment, application forms are available at the
Municipal Administrative Centre, Clerk's Department, 40

Dear Dr. Janice Aluin:
This is to advise you that the Council of the Municipality of
Clarington has approved the establishment of an Animal Advisory
Committee subject to review after nine months. This committee will
assist and support the Animal Control Services Staff to enhance the
care of our animals. These meetings will be held monthly, during
business hours at the Municipal Administrative Centre in
Bowmanville.
The composition of the Animal Advisory Committee will be as
follows:
- 3 Community Representatives
- 1 Veterinarian
- 1 Representative from Durham Animal Adoption
- 1 Representative from the Canadian Association of Zoological
Parks & Aquariums
- Senior Animal Control Officer or alternate
- Deputy Clerk or alternate; and
- 1 Council Member
The purpose of this letter is to determine your interest in
becoming a member of this Committee. If you are interested,
pleased advise me in writing by 4:30 p.m., October 11, 1996.
Council will review all applications and make the appointments to
the Animal Advisory Committee by the end of October at which time
I will advise you.
I encourage your participation because your knowledge and expertise
will be indispensable ingredients towards the important formula
required for the success and effectiveness of this Committee.
