Subject:. ESTATE OF CLARE JOHN GARTON
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. THAT Report WD-32-96 be received;
2. THAT, upon receiving the grant of Five Hundred Dollars ($500)
from the Estate of Clare John Garton, the funds be deposited.
to the Perpetual Care Fund, Account No. 2003-00010-0000; and
3. THAT, upon receiving the grant, a letter expressing Council's
appreciation be sent to the estate and family of the late
Clare John Garton.

No. 1: Letter, dated 29 August 1996, from Lech, Lightbody,
O'Brien & Lanctot, Solicitors for the estate of
Clare John Garton
2.0 BACKGROUND
2.1 In a letter dated 29 August 1996 (Attachment No. 1), Robert D.
Lightbody of Lech, Lightbody, O'Brien and Lanctot, Barristers,
Solicitors and Notaries, advised they were solicitors for the
estate of Clare John Garton, who died on August. l0 1996.

2.2 Enclosed with the above letter was a copy of the Last Will and
Testament of Clare John Garton which states, in part, as
follows:
"To pay to the BOWMANVILLE CEMETERY, the sum of FIVE
HUNDRED ($500.00) dollars and I DIRECT that the receipt
of the Treasurer of said Cemetery Board shall be a good
and sufficient discharge to my said Trustees for the
payment of same".
2.3 Although the Last Will and Testament is silent on the reason
for the gift, Mr. Lightbody believes it is possible there are
family members interred there.
2.4 Mr. Lightbody has suggested that a cheque in the amount of
$500 will likely be forwarded in January or February of 1997
after the requirements and conditions of the will and law have
been met.
