Council Minutes Delegations Mr. Hobbs Mr. Cureatz Mrs. Hennessy Alteration of Agenda -2- September 8 1981 Mr. Ivan M. Hobbs spoke to Council relative to reports of security problems at the Bell Building. He stated that he had turned in all of the keys in his possession prior to the end of his term on Council. He requested an apology and a retraction of a statement made at the July 27th Council meeting. Resolution #C-938-81 Moved by Councillor Taylor, seconded by Councillor Hamre THAT Mr. Sam Cureatz, M.P.P. and Mrs. Hennessey be heard. "CARRIED" Mr. Sam Cureatz, M.P.P. thanked Council for the opportunity to speak to them. He stated that he was always available to intervene for Council at Queen's Park. He drew attention to the good working relationship between his staff and the staff of the Town. He said that he was supportive of proposed legislation for upgrading the term of municipal councillors to three years. Mr. Cureatz also fielded questions from members of Council relative to the connecting link of Highway #2 through the former Village of Newcastle, the transfer of payments to municipalities, a proposed GO station to serve the Town of Newcastle. Mrs. Hennessy, Secretary/Treasurer of the Tenants Association at the Marianna Developments spoke to Council of the problems of noise and vandalism outside the building. She stated that she had spoken to the Durham Regional Police, but had been told the individuals causing the disturbances would have to be identified. She was questioned by members of Council concerning other problems such as the need for a cross-walk, the enforcement of the bicycle by-law and the requirements for the licensing of billiard halls. Council Minutes Flooding and Drainage Problems Municipal property -14- September 8 1981 Mayor Rickard offered congratulations to Mr. Dunham and Mr. Fred Brown on the successful completion of the course at the C. S. Anderson Road School. Resolution #C-987-81 Moved by Councillor Woodyard, seconded by Councillor Hubbard THAT WHEREAS there have been numerous complaints regarding the flooding and drainage problems in the area of the Connecting Link of Highway #2 through the former Village of Newcastle, and WHEREAS this has been verified by the Director of Public Works for the Town of Newcastle; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Town of Newcastle go on record as requesting the Ministry of Transportation and Communications to give consideration to the reconstruction, including storm drainage, of the Connecting Link through the former Village of Newcastle and the inclusion of this project in their estimates for 1982.
