BY-LAW#2001-044
Being a By-Law to exempt from local property taxes,
Property in Clarington owned by
Branch 178 of the Royal Canadian Legion,
Pursuant to Section 207(62) of the Municipal Act.
WHEREAS, the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Clarington considers
it desirable to exempt the local portion of property taxes on property owned by Branch
178 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
AND WHEREAS Chapter M.45, Section 207(62) of the Municipal Act R.S.O. 1990,
provides that, By-Laws may be passed by the Council of all Municipalities, "For
exemption from taxation, except for local improvements and school purposes for a period
of not exceeding ten years, any premises used and occupied as a memorial home,
clubhouse or athletic grounds by persons who served in the armed forces of Her Majesty
or Her Majesty's allies in any war".
NOW THEREFORE, Be It Enacted and It Is Enacted, as a By-Law of the Corporation of
the Municipality of Clarington as follows:
1. THAT the Treasurer be authorized to exempt the local portion of property
taxes on property owned by Branch 178 of the Royal Canadian Legion;
and
2. THAT the Region of Durham be requested to exempt the upper tier
portion of property taxes, pursuant to Regional Report#2001-F-16.
By-Law read a first and second time this 19th day of March 2001.
By-Law read a third and finally passed this 19th day of March 2001.
