Meeting was called to order at 6:35pm.
1. Adoption of Minutes

That the minutes of the meetings of June 7 , 2017 and Sept 9, 2017 be approved .

2. Presentation
Fred Horvath, Director of Operations, gave an overview of snow clearing
operations in the Municipality. Fred described the responsibilities of Durham
Region in clearing regional roads and the Municipality of Clarington in clearing
Municipal roads, municipal lots, s idewalks and seniors program. Fred will forward
the visual presentation . (Attachment 1)
3; Business Arising From Minutes
(a) Multi-Year Accessibility Plan
The Accessibility Coordinator gave the Committee an overview of the Multi-Year
Accessibility Plan.

That the Accessibility Advisory Committee recommend that Council approve the
Multi-Year Accessibility Plan.

(b) Clarington Accessibility Award Nominee Recognition
The Accessibility Coordinator advised Committee members that invitations for
the Nov 1 event were created and sent to the Mayor and Councillors, Chief
Administrative Officer and invitations to the nominees and other guests will be
sent out within a week. Committee suggested to invite a representative from the
Board of Trade.
The event will be part of the Committee's November meeting.
(c) Harvest Festival -October 7
Tourism will not have a booth at Harvest festival. Tim Van Leeuwen will attend
the event and bring accessibility information for distribution.
(d) Applefest-October 14
Tourism is sharing the booth with Metrolinx and the booth is in a different location
with a different setup . It will be immediately adjacent to other booths so will have
limited space booth inside the booth and at the sides of the booth. Tourism
provided the Committee with two options:
Option 1 -To send AAC materials and swag to Tourism and Tourism will display
at their booth, with no AAC members present.
Option 2 -Have ACC members bring thei r own material to hand out, but only
have one person at a time be present at t he booth.
The committee decided on Option 1 (send materials only) and Accessibility
Coordinator will arrange to send materials to Tourism .

(e) Enabling Accessibility Grant update
October 4, 2017
The Main Branch Library elevator upgrade to include audio announcements was
rescheduled to October 5. This work is funded through the Municipality's 2016
grant application.
(f) International Day of Persons with disabilities -Sunday December 3
December 3rd, 2017 is t he International Day of Persons with Disabilities . A brief
discussion about ways the day could be marked took place. The Committee
would like to have: flag raising , delegation to Council/Committee, information on
www.clarington .net and social media awareness. The Committee suggested that
Andre O'Bumsawin be the presenter for the delegation to Council with the
support of the Committee. Details regarding delegation and messaging will be
discussed at the November AAC meeting .
4. New Business
(a) Community Improvement Plans
The Accessibility Coordinator shared briefly about Community Improvement
Program grants for the local Business Improvement Areas (BIAs). Some
accessibility improvements may be covered under the building code grant. The
Planning Department is working on developing an accessibly grant where eligible
works will improve accessibility.
The Committee would like to invite Faye Langmaid , Manager of Special Projects ,
Planning Services Department to present at future AAC meeting.
5. Regional Update
(a) Joint AAC Meeting and Durham Region Accessibility Awards
The Accessibility Coordinator shared information on the September 26 event to
all AAC members via email.
6. Other Business
