Mayor Rickard and Members of Council: -
The following is a report of the meeting of the Community Services Committee
held on Monday, January 19, 1981:
1. Received for Information
(a) Report relative to Free Ice Time for Schools in Wards 1 and 2.
(b) Monthly Fire Reports for November and December, 1980.
(c) Report regarding Erosion Control, Orono Park.
(d) Report re hiring of three persons for the Newcastle Fitness Centre.
2. Bowmanville United Soccer League Takeover
It was recommended to Council that the request of the Bowmanville
United Soccer League to incorporate the Recreation Soccer League
into their organization and take over assets pertaining to the
Recreation Soccer League, such as equipment, sweaters and soccer
balls, etc. be endorsed and an Agreement be drawn up between the
Town and the Bowmanville United Soccer League and presented to
the next meeting of the Community Services Committee.
3. Wood Burning Stoves
It was recommended that Fire Chief Hayman contact the Press and
set up information articles relating to the use of wood burning stoves.
4. Insurance for Board Members
It was recommended to Council that the Town insure five members of
each Community Centre Board and Abandoned Cemetery Committee.
5. Newcastle Arena Deficiencies
It was recommended to Council that Item 2 of the letter from the Newcastle
Arena Management Board to the Town Manager, dated November 27, 1980,
relative to deficiencies at the Newcastle Arena, be considered an item
of maintenance and it be the responsibility of the Management Board, and
Item 4 be referred to the Fire Chief to recommend an appropriate solution
with a cost, and report back to the next meeting of the Committee.
6. Federal Cultural Review Committee
It was recommended to Council that the report of the Director regarding
the Federal Cultural Review Committee be received for information and
the Director be authorized to expand his Public Relations Media program.

7. Meeting with School Board
Tt was recommended to Council that the Committee accept the invitation
of the Community Services Committee of the Northumberland and Newcastle
Board of Education to meet to discuss the use of indoor facilities
and the Chairman arrange with the Board a suitable date and time and
report to Council.
