Mayor Rickard and Members of Council: -
The following is a report of a meeting of the Community Services Committee
held on September 2 , 1980:
1. Library Facilities - Courtice Secondary School
It was recommended to Council that whereas Council has received correspondence
from the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education indicating interest in
the joint operation of library services for educational and public purposes at
the Courtice Secondary School, and whereas Mr. H. 0. Bradley, principal of the
Courtice Secondary School has attended a Community Services Committee meeting
offering his support and co-operation, therefore be it resolved that the Town
express their interest to the Library Board in pursuing this matter further in
the forthcoming year for possible establishment of such a library system at
the beginning of the Fall Term, 1981.
2. Received for Information
(a) Report of the Fire Chief relative to information on Rilda Hughes from
the Ministry of the Solicitor General.
(b) 1980 Monthly Fire Report for July.
(c) Report of the Treasurer re Ontario Association of Cemeteries
(d) Report of the Deputy Director of Community Services re Swimming Registrations.
(e) Community Services Department Spring and Summer Report.
(f) Report of the Community Services Director re Soccer Pitch - Darlington Sports CentrE
(g) Program Announcement from Ministry of Culture and Recreation re FitFive Program
(h) Correspondence from Ontario Tennis Association regarding Eastern Region Junior
Identification Program.
3. Fire Station lie Roof Repair
It was recommended to Council that the Fire Chief be authorized to have the drain
repaired on the apartment roof of Fire Station #2, Newcastle, provided it is within
his budget allocation. (Work to be done by Selby Grant Roofing and Sheet Metal)
4. Fire Station #2 - Hard Top
It was recommended to Council that the Fire Chief be authorized to call tenders for
hard topping the front section of driveway and apron of Fire Station #2, Newcastle.
5. Recreation Master Plan
It was recommended to Council that the report of the Director of Community Services re
the Master Plan for Recreation recommendations, prepared by the Master Plan Committee,
be received for information and the Deputy Director report to the Town Manager, the
amount expended on this item to date.

6. Zion Park Association
It was recommended to Council that the report of the Director of Community Services
relative to Zion Hall Board be received and the Chairman be authorized to arrange
a meeting with Mr. Fred Anderson and the Committee of the Zion Park Association,
the Community Services Committee and appropriate staff.
