Mayor Rickard and Members of Council: -
The following is a report of the meeting of the Community Services
Committee held on Tuesday, July 24, 1979:
1. Water Supply Courtice Fire Station #4
It was recommended to Council that the project to install municipal water
supply at Courtice Fire Station #4, as detailed in the Fire Chief's report
dated July 6, 1979, be approved subject to a recommendation as to how this
will be financed. (Report attached).
2. Orono Hydro Electric Buildin
It was recommended to Council that, in the event of the transfer of the
Orono Hydro Electric offices to a central office, consideration be given
to the feasibility of acquiring the building for Fire Station #3, Orono.
3. Caretaking Courtice Fire Station #4
It was recommended to Council that the Personnel of Fire Station #r Courtice,
do the caretaking of the fire hall themselves for a 6 months' trial period
and the $250. allotted for caretaking be advanced to them to enable the
association to purchase some of the small necessary items to operate the
Department.
4. Fire Emergency Service Information
It was recommended to Council that the Fire Emergency Service information
be published in.the Canadian Statesman, the Newcastle Reporter, the
Newcastle Independent and the Orono Weekly Times as per the ad submitted
by the Fire Chief.
5. Aluminum Siding Fire Hall #2, Newcastle
It was recommended to Council that the Fire Chief be authorized to call
for quotes on installation of aluminum siding for Fire Hall X12, Newcastle.
6. Car Wash and Bake Sale - Courtice Fire Station #4
It was recommended that the request of the personnel of Courtice Fire Station
#4 be approved provided consideration of use of apparatus bay to set up tables
for display of goods rather than use of the upstairs.
7. Clarke Cemetery Board
The report of the Clarke Cemetery Board was received for information and it
was recommended to Council that they offer support to the Board.

8. Public Meeting Hampton Hall
It was recommended to Council that the Chairman of the Community Service
Committee advertise a Public Meeting in the Village of -Hampton for the
purpose of electing a Hall Board for the Darlington Hampton Hall.
9. Tender - Backhoe
It was recommended to Council that the Tender of Case Power and Equipment
Ltd., Whitby, for a Backhoe, 'Model 580C at a total: cost of $32,980.24
including Federal Sales Tax, be accepted. (See Res. #CS -145-79 for list of Tenders).
10. Fee Schedule Bowmanville and Darlington Arenas
It was recommended to Council that the Proposed Fee Schedule for the Bowmanville
Memorial Arena and the Darlington Sports Centre, as per report of the Director
of Community Services dated July 16, 1979, be adopted. (See Res. #CS -154-79).
11. Programme Fees
It was recommended to Council that the Fee Schedule for Programmes for the
1979-80 Fall and Winter Season as per Deputy. Director's report dated
July 16, 1979, be adopted. (See Res. #CS -155-79).

MEMORANDUM July 6th, 1979.
TO: Chairman and Members of Community Services Committee
FROM: J. Hayman, Fire Chief
SUBJECT: Fire Station 114 - Courtice - Municipal Water Supply
The Regional Municipality of Durham are extending their
Municipal 16" water main north on Trull's Road from Nash
Road, in order to accomodate the Fire Department they
will extend the main an additional 200 feet north (map
enclosed).
The Town of Newcastle responsibility would be the cost
of installation of a 6" water main across Trull's Road
to the west property line of the Fire Station where a
fire hydrant on the road allowance will be installed at
no cost to the Town.
The figures supplied by the Region for a Commercial
connection from the 16" water main on the west side of
Trull's Road are 6" water main from the 16" water main
to the fire station property line. 6" shut off valve
at the property line. $2,000. Additional - Town property
Installation - 125 feet - 4 inch water main to interior
apparatus bay area, north wall - $2,500. Total $4,500.
I would recommend approval of this project.
