Mayor Rickard and Members of Council: -
The following is a report of the meeting of the Community Services Committee
held on March 20, 1979.
1. Lease re Parks Building
It was recommended to Council relative to the Lease for the Parks Building,
1) That the Town renew the lease with Mr. Locke on a two year basis at the
rate of $1.73 per square foot and that the Municipality assume the cost of
heat and light.
2) That the Town obtain an option clause for a further two years if desired
by Council.
3) That Mr. Locke be requested to have a separate hydro meter installed for
the building.
4) Consideration be given in the next six months to acquiring land and
building a permanent parks maintenance facility prior to the expiration of
the lease.
2. Memberships in Recreation Organizations
It was recommended to Council that memberships in Ontario Municipal Recreation
Association and the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association be discontinued.
3. Agreement re Swimming Pool and Squash Courts
It was recommended that the attached agreement between the Town of Newcastle
and the Board of Education for Swimming Pool and Squash Courts be endorsed
and used as a basis of discussion at the next joint meeting of the Town and
Board of Education.
4. Gift - Len Lambert
It was recommended to Council that a suitable gift be purchased for Mr. Len Lambert,
volunteer fireman, for his years of service to the Town.
5. Cancer Month
It was recommended to Council that April be proclaimed Cancer Month in the Town
of Newcastle and no advertising be authorized.
6. Ambulance Service Fire Activations
It was recommended to Council that the letter from Mr. Wm. Yeo, Ambulance
Supervisor Bowmanville Memorial Hospital regarding ambulance service for fire
activations for the area, be received for information.
7. Official Opening Fire Hall X14, Courtice
It was recommended to Council that the Chairman of Community Services, Clerk
and Fire Chief make arrangements for the Official Opening of Fire Hall #4,
\_ Courtice, at an appropriate time.
8. Tenders - Furnishings Courtice Fire Hall 114
The following Tenders were received for furnishings at Courtice Fire Hall 114.
All tenders included separate pricing for each article with no total tender price.
The Tenders were referred to the Fire Chief and Treasurer for evaluation and total
cost and a recommendation:
Cambrian Business Products Limited, Scarborough
Dickson Printing & Office Supplies, Ajax
Grant & Toy Limited, Don Mills
Viner Office Supplies, Oshawa.
9. Haydon Hall Board
The following nominations for the Haydon Hall Board were recommended to Council:
Mrs. Rena Potts
Mrs. Gladys Potts
Mrs. Blanche Jones
