HomeMy WebLinkAbout1979-01-23 ReportREPORT NO. 2 Mayor Rickard and Members of Council: - The following is a report of a meeting of the Community Services Committee held on Tuesday, January 23, 1979, at 9:30 a.m. 1. Newtonville Hall Board The request of the delegation from the Newtonville Hall Board requesting financial assistance with a project of repairs and siding to their Hall was acknowledged and it was recommended to Council that they, through their representatives on the Board, work with them in support of this program and the Town Manager report back to the Committee on the state of the building. 2. Bowmanville Museum It was recommended to Council that the recommendation of the Local Architectural Advisory Committee be endorsed as follows: "That the Bowmanville Museum (Waverly Place), the out -buildings, namely the potting shed and carriage shed, the surrounding property, the remainder of the Victorian garden be designated under the terms of the Ontario Heritage Act as an historical and architectural site". 3. Library Parking The concerns of the delegation from the Library Board regarding parking were acknowledged and library parking not be accommodated on the Museum property as outlined, but the need for parking at the library be addressed in other locations by Town Council and Staff. 4. Mr. Hamilton Theletter from Mr. Irwing Hamilton regarding parking at the Library was received for information. 5. Base Line Community Centre The Town Manager was asked to send a status report regarding the Base Line Community Centre to the interested parties. 6. Newcastle Arena Management Board Appointments It was recommended that it be recommended to the Chairman of the Newcastle Arena. Management Board that a public meeting, to nominate the 1979 Board be called and Councillors be notified of the date of the meeting, prior to Council endorsing the Board. 7. Orono Arena Board It was recommended that according to By-law 78-63, the Orono Arena Board be composed of two members of the Durham Central Agricultural Society, two members of the Orono Athletic Society and one member elected at a Public Meeting to be called by the Board "'', and two members of Council, Mayor Rickard and Councillor Barr. - 2 - REPORT NO. 2 8. Heaters - Bowmanville Arena It was recommended that the request of the Bowmanville Kinsmen Club to have the 12 heaters, which they had donated to the Bowmanville Arena and which have now been removed, be granted and a Notice be posted in the Arena explaining the reasons for the removal. 9. Fire Answering Service It was recommended to Council that an annual rate of $8,760. for 1979 and 1980 for the Fire Emergency Telephone Answering Service, be approved. 10. Fire Hydrants - Steamer Connections It was recommended to Counci that they advise Chief E.R.Stacey, Oshawa Fire Department, that the Town would like hydrants with steamer connections in certain localities in the Town of Newcastle. 11. Furnishings and plaque _for Fire Station #4, Courtice It was recommended that the Fire Chief's request for furnishings at Fire Station X14, Courtice, at a cost of approximately $3,500. to be taken from the Contingency Fund and the preliminary design of the commemorative plaque, be approved. 12. Volunteer Firemen Halls 2 and 3 It was recommended that the Chief's recommendation regarding Volunteer Firemen for Halls 2 and 3 be endorsed and the two retirees, Mr. Len Lambert of Hall 2 and Mr. Arnold Wallace of Hall 3, be recognized for their years of service.
