Mayor Rickard and Members of Council: -
The following is a report of a meeting of the Community Services Committee
held on Monday, September 11, 1978 at 1:15 p.m. in the Committee Room of
the Bell Building.
1. By-law 78-63 - Orono Arena Community Centre Board
It was recommended that the changes in the report of the Town Manager
J dated August 29, 1978 regarding changes to Sections 8 and 12 of By -Law
78-63, a by-law to establish the Orono Arena as a Community Centre in
accordance with the Community Recreation Centres Act, 1974, and to
provide for the establishment of a Community Centre Board, be endorsed,
and the amended by-law be forwarded to Council for processing. (See
By -Laws).
2. Bowmanville Skating Carnival 1979
It was recommended to Council that the Bowmanville Skating Club be
J granted permission to hold their Annual Skating Carnival. on Saturday
April 28, 1979, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday, April 29,
1979, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m: as recommended in the report of
the Deputy Director of Community Services.
3. Ladies Swim & Gym Program
J It was recommended to Council that the Pee for the Ladies Swim and Gym
Program, a 20 week course for adult ladies conducted by the Community
Services Department at Pine Ridge Training School, be $10.00 per
applicant.
4. By -Law Prohibiting possession of Liquor in Stadiums and Arenas
It was recommended to Council that in response to the letter from the
Chief of Police of the Region of Durham, the matter of a by-law
prohibiting the possession of liquor in stadiums and arenas be
referred to the Town Manager and the By -Law Enforcement Officer to
prepare the necessary by-law and present it to Council.
5. Fire Prevention Week
It was recommended to Council that the week of October 8 to 14, 1978,
be procl im,� Fire Prevention Week in the Town of Newcastle.
6. Newtonville Senior Citizens
It was recommended to Council that they support the Senior Citizens in
Newtonville up to $15. per month for the balance of 1978 to defray the
cost of accommodation subject to this amount being accommodated in the
1978 Community Services Budget.
7. Town Owned land behind Arena
It was recommended to Council that Mr. Piper be authorized to clear Town owned
land in the ravine behind the Bowmanville Arena near the Goodyear Dam, subject
to the approval of the Conservation Authority and no liability to the Municipality.
