HomeMy WebLinkAbout1978-05-08 ReportReport No. 1 Mayor Rickard and Members of Council: - The following is a report of a meeting of the Community Services Committee held on May 8, 1978: 1. Senior Citizens Ad Hoc Steering Committee It was recommended to Council that the report of the Senior Citizens Steering Committee, dated April 24, 1978, be received for information and the Director of Community Services endeavour to keep the Senior Citizens informated of the programs available in the Commur•ity and supply.the necessary information and Marlis Lindsay of the "New Horizons" program of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, be invited to a future meeting of the Committee. 2. Clarke and Darlington Cemetery Committees Reports were received from the Clarke Cemetery Committee and the Darlington Cemetery Committee and it was recommended to Council that they be asked to make arrangements for grass cutting in restored cemeteries and the cost be invoiced to the Town. 3. Sprig and Summer Fees for Darlington Sports Centre The following schedule of Spring and Summer Fees for the Darlington Sports Centre are recommended to Council: (a) Auto shows, garage sales, flea markets, music shows, banquets and dances; private rentals such as weddings, wedding anniversaries, retirement parties light functions, political meetings, etc.. - $15.00 per hour with a minimum charge of $125.00 per day. (b) Where alcoholic beverages permitted for sale: - $220.00 per day (c) Time allocation: 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. (d) Please Note: Day before and day after ($15.00) per hour for setting up and cleaning re Sections (a) and (b). (e) Floor Rentals: Ball Hockey, Soccer and other active activities - $15.per hour. (f) Arena Canteen - Department of Community Services, Town of Newcastle, reserves the right to operate Arena Canteen on all above rentals. 4. 1978/79 Arena Rental Rates - Bowmanville and Darlington Tot Skating .25fi Public Skating .75C Ice Rental, Prime time 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. Ice Rental, Off Time 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. $35.00 per hour $25.00 per hour .2 5. Recreation Activities - Fall and Winter Fee Structure The following Fall and Winter Fee Structure for 1978/79 was recommended to Council: Baton and tap $15.00 Figure Skating - Beginner $25.00 - Junior $35.00 - Intermediate $50.00 - Senior $60.00 Learn to Skate $ 2.00 Power Skating - 10 weeks $20.00 Skating Carnival - Admission $ 2.00/$1.00 Hockey - 20 weeks $50.00 Adult Swimming $18.00 Jamboree - Admission $ 2.00/.50q 6. Awards Policy regarding Sports and Culture The following is recommended to Council: Athletics That all teams and individuals winning a Provincial, National or International Championship Achievement, recognized by Sports Ontario and Sports Canada, receive an appropriate award from the Town of Newcastle. Culture That all groups and individuals winning a Provincial, National or International Achievement recognized by various agencies of the Provincial and Federal Government receive an appropriate award from the Town of Newcastle Authority That all awards must be approved by the Town of Newcastle and apply to Town of Newcastle Teams or individuals. The Director of Community Services was asked to bring in a cost of sample medallions suitably engraved with the Town Crest. 7. Orono Town Hall Board It was recommended to Council that an ad be placed in the Orono Weekly Times advising that at the next meeting, the Committee will be recommending the appointment of a Board to run the Orono Town Hall and any interested Groups or individuals are invited to attend. 8.
