HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977-04-04 ReportReport No. 1 Mayor Rickard and Members of Council: - The following is a report of the Community Services Committee Meeting held on April 4, 1977: 1. Newcastle Recreation Advisory Committee It was recommended that a Committee of 10 people representing various Cultural and Recreational interests in the Municipality be appointed as a Newcastle Recreation Advisory Committee and that the following be appointed, if they will accept the appointment: Sterling Mather Harvey Webster Ann Cowman Ed Dwyer Bill Brunt Grant Herron Jennifer Gray Joan Higginson Graham Dallas Carol Reynolds 2. Library Board Budget The Committee approved in principle, the 1977 total estimates in the Library Board Budget and recommended to Council that they approve of the $3.10 per capita grant from the Municipality, as outlined in the budget, this provides an increase of 8%. 3. Monument - Bowmanville Cemetery Mrs. Vanhaverbeke requested permission to have installed in the Bowmanville Cemetery, a monument with a larger base than is permitted in the Cemetery By - Law. The Secretary was asked to answer the letter and explain that this does not comply with the existing by-law and it is regretted that the request cannot be granted. 4. Increase in Cost of Plots - Bowmanville Cemetery It was recommended that Schedule "A" to By-law 76-43, regarding Bowmanville Cemetery, be amended to increase the cost of plots to reflect the maximum percentage allowable on the date of the passing of the amendment. 5. Tent Circus - Newcastle Village It was recommended to Council that permission be granted for a Tent Circus in the Village of Newcastle on May 11, 1977. 6. Well Pump - Darlington Sports Centre It was recommended to Council that the bill for $487.00 from Faulkner Well Drilling for repairs to the pump in the well at the Darlington Sports Centre, which was hit by lightning, be paid. 7. Heaters over seats in Bowmanvill.e Arena It was recommended to Council that the heaters over the seats in the Bowmanville Arena be disconnected and removed due to their ineffectiveness and the cost of operation. �. Community Recreation Centres Grant - Ne.vtonvill.c Hall It was recommended to Council that they apply for a Community Recreation Centres Grant on the proposed prr-ject of the Newtonville Hall Board to put siding on the Hall at an approximate cost of $4,500.00 Respectfully submitted, Alfred Gray, Chairman
