Mayor Rickard and Members of Council: -
The following is a report of a meeting of the Community Services
Committee held on November 1st, 1976:
1. Newcastle Arena Manager
It was recommended to the Newcastle Arena Board that Council
concur with the Director of Recreation's recommendation that
Mr. John Hughes be appointed Arena Manager for the Newcastle
Village Arena for the 1976-1977 Season.
2. Monitoring Duties
It was recommended to Council that Mr. Fanning be authorized
to designate the Monitoring Duties at the Newcastle Village
Arena.
3. Newcastle Committee
The Committee congratulated the Newcastle Committee for their
efforts in restoring the Newcastle Arena.
4. Town of Markham Resolution
It was recommended to Council that they support the resolution
from the Town of Markham regarding the purchase of Sports
Equipment.
5. Repairs to Fire Hall #3
It was recommended to Council that they concur with the price
of $180. for installing aluminum windows at Fire Hall #3,
Orono but competitive and firm prices be brought in regarding
roof repairs.
6. Answering Service Fire Hall #1
It was recommended to Council that they concur with the Chief's
recommendation that Mrs. Grace Player be appointed to take over
the agreement for the Answering Service at Fire Hall #1,
Bowmanville.
7. Fire Inspection Report - Cream of Barley Mill
The Fire Chief's General Inspection Report regarding the Cream
of Barley Mill was received for information.
8. Regional_ Meeting November 26
It was recommended to Council that they support the Fire Chief's
recommendation for providing refreshments, as at previous meetings,
when the Town of Newcastle hosts the meeting of the Durham Region7t

9. Siderp lk Grills - Bowmanville Front Street
It was recommended that the Fire Chief contact the owners of
establishments on the Front Street in Bowmanville advising them
of the potential fire hazard caused by trash in the grills in
the sidewalks and that they be cleaned out.
10. Bowmanville Cemetery - Babyland Marker
It was recommended that By-law 76-43 governing the Bowmanville
Cemetery be amended to provide that on a Babyland Grave the size
of the flat marker shall not exceed 6" x 14".
11. Cremation Plot Marker
It was recommended that By-law 76-43 be amended to provide that
on cremation plot the size of the flat marker shall not exceed
10" x 16".
12. Schedule "F" and Burial Permit
It was recommended that the Superintendent be provided with a
copy of Schedule "E" to By-law 76-43 and Burial Permit Form
#19 prior to interment.
13. Notice re Death Certificates
It was recommended that the local Undertakers and the Chief of
Staff of Bowmanville Hospital be advised that, due to recent
legislation, the Town of Newcastle will not, under any circum-
stances, accept a body for burial without a duly signed Medical
Certificate of Death and the Chief of Staff see that this notice
is circulated to all Staff.
14. Schedule "F" and "G"
It was recommended that a supply of Schudule "F" and "G" forms
to By-law 76-43, be sent to all Monument distributors in the area,
names of distributors to be supplied by the Secretary -Treasurer.
