Mayor Rickard and Members of Council: -
The following is a report of the meeting of the Community Services Committee
held on Monday, May 17, 1976 at 7 p.m.:
1. Newcastle Games
Mr. Bill Humber of the Visual Arts Association was present, with others to
bring the Committee up to date on the progress of the Newcastle Games which
will be held in connection with the Olympics. The purpose is "Exploring the
Environment through Art and Culture." He reported that they had received a
Wintario Grant of $5,150. and suggested that they work with the Town through
the Recreation Director.
2. Hockey Program - Village of Newcastle
It was recommended that the Hockey Program in the Village of Newcastle continue
to function as it has in the past.
3. Visual Inspection of Arenas
It was recommended to Council that the contract for the visual inspection of
arenas in the Town be awarded to Leighton and Kidd at a price of $3,600.
4. Recreation Centres Grants
- Communication was received from the Ministry of Culture and Recreation, enclosing
the cheques, of the Grants under the Community Recreation Centres Act in the
amounts of $39,872.44 for the New Tyrone Community Hall and $8,838.75 for the
Brownsdale Community Hall.
5. Dog Licensing
It was recommended that Councillor Lyall make arrangements to engage Mr. Was
Fice as a dog licensing officer and check regarding liability, etc.
6. Children's Day - Orono Fair
It was recommended to Council that they support the request from the Orono
Public School that elementary students from Orono, Lockharts, Kendal, Kirby,
Newtonville, A7ewca5tle and The Pines, who intend to participate in the
Children's Day program at the Orono Fair on Friday, September 10, 1976, be
allowed to do so.
