Mayor Rickard and Members of Council: -
The following is a report of a meeting of the Community Services Committee held
in the Committee Room of the Bowmainville Town Rall on May 3, 1976:
1. Schedule of Hours at Animal Pound
it was recommended that the schedule of hours at the Animal Pound remain the
same as the Winter schedule.
2. Burial of Animals
It Was recommended that no more holes be dug at the Works Yard for disposal of
animals and Mr. Hancock and Councillor Allin check further for a piece of
property suitable for burial of animals.
3. Pla:tiing - Darlington Sports Centre
It was recommended that Councillor Allin ask the Horticultural Society if they
would be interested in planting at the Darlington Sports Centre.
4. Lighting of Sign
It was recommended to Council that they accept the estimate of Higgons Electric
of $150. for lighting the sign at,the Darlington Sports Centre.
5. Authority - Visual Arts Centre l
It was recommended to Council that the authority for the(isual A Cen re)
be with the Parks and Recreation Director.
6. Figure Skating Carnivals
It was recommended that letters be sent from Council to the Figure Skating
Clubs of Bowmanville, Newcastle and Orono commending their efforts in staging
the Skating Carnivals.
7. Letter of Appreciation to John James
It was recommended to Council that a letter be sent to Mr. John James that the
Town of Newcastle deeply appreciates his efforts and those of his Staff on the
Canadian Statesman in covering Civic Functions.
8. Browasdale Bar -B -Q
It was recommended that in view of budget restrictions, the request of Brownsdale
Community Centre for a Grant towards the cost of their Bar -B -Q Country Show,
not be granted.
9. Registration Fees for Swimming Classes
It was recommended that the Registration fees for swimming classes be standardized
at all pools in the Town under the Recreation Department.

10. Darlington Cemetery Board
It was recommended that the following be appointed to the Darlington Cemetery
Board and that Councillor Tink call the first meeting:
M . Fred Griffin - R. R. # 2, Blackstock
Mr. Sid Cornish - R. R. # 5, Bowmanville
Mr. Gord Barrie - R. R. # 4, Bowmanville
Mr. Grant Herron - Courtice Rd. S.
Mr. Harold Muir - Courtice
Councillor H. B. Tink - Hampton
11. Durham East Red Cross Branch
It was recommended that the letter from the Durham East Red Cross Branch
be referred to this year's Budget discussions.
12 C.O.M.R.A.
It was recommended that Council accept the invitation to meet with representatives
of C.O.M.R.A. and water safety on the Lake be reviewed. The Secretary was
instructed to send a letter to Alderman J. DeHart of Oshawa, inviting the
representatives to be present at the meeting of the Committee of the Whole on
May 10, at I p.m.
13. Block Parents
It was recommended to Council that the Block Parent Movement be supported in the
Town of Newcastle.
