HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975-04-07 Report (2)Report No.6 Mayor Rickard and Members of Council: - The following are the tenders submitted to the Community rvices Committee on the Brownsdale Recreation Centre and the comments Jf the Chief Building Inspector: TENDERS Bowman Construction $15,900. Percy W. Allin $10,850 + 1,050 11,900. Ken Langford 17,995. Maclnnis Bros. Construction 12,500. Anger Construction 18,000. Peter Willems 15,000. COMMENTS OF CHIEF BUILDING INSPECTOR Having studied the six (6) tenders submitted and the plans upon which the tenders were based, I wish to submit the following comments: That tenders may be uniform and all based on the same materials and labour. The documents supplied for tender purposes should contain a full set of working drawings and specifications. This way we know that all concerned are tendering on exactly the same job. -In the very brief specifications included on the plans, they have definitely called for two coats of paint on all walls, ceilings, doors, trim etc. None of the six tenders have included this in their final estimate. There is a difference in heating the new rooms, some by forced air from the existing system and one by electric heat. Our study shows that .r. Percy Allin's price of $10,850. plus $1,050. for painting remainder of hall bringing the total price to $11,900. to be the most realistic. We must also take into consideration the matter of proper fire extinguishers, emergent lighting, panic hardware and proper exit. lights which are a must. We also note on the new outside entrance to the basement the plans call for a 10" concrete block wall with a back fill of seven feet. This would have to b a 12" concrete block wall to meet code requirements. We also suggested this entrance should be enclosed. This, however, is not practical because of the windows above. I would suggest a meeting with Mr. .Alin to talk over these things so that everything will be understood by both parties. This will no doubt raise the price of tender somewhat but it would also do the same on the other tenders. When agreement has been reached, I suggest Mr. Allin's tender be accepted." Respectfully submitted D. W. A11in, Chairman Community Services Committee.
