HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-10-12 ReportReport No. 4 Mayor Rickard & Members of Council: - The following is a report of a meeting of the Committee of the Whole held at 10:15 a.m. on October 12, 1976 in the Committee Room of the Bowmanville Town Hall: - 1. Christmas and New Years Holidays THAT it be recommended to Council that the Town of Newcastle recognize the following holidays: Christmas Day - Friday, December 24th Boxing Day - Monday, December 27th New Years Day - Friday, December 31st under Collective Agreements and the Union be advised accordingly, and that the same consideration be given to Non -Union Personnel. 2. Bowmanville Arena Repairs THAT it be recommended to Council that they concur with Totten Sims Hubicki's recommendation that the contract for repairs at the Bowmanville Arena be awarded to Ellwall & Sons Construction Limited, Thornhill, at a tendered cost of $44,588.00 and a completion time of 4 weeks (subject to obtaining materials). 3. Repairs to Newcastle Arena THAT it be recommended to Council that they concur with the recommendations of Mayor Rickard that Mr. Glen Allin undertake the repairs to Newcastle Arena, that the necessary permits be obtained, an agreement signed with Mr. Allin and Workmens Compensation and other details regarding volunteers be worked out and the Mayor authorize proceeding with the work when he is satisfied that the conditions have been met. 4. Safety of Children in Multi Storey Buildings THAT it be recommended to Council that the Chief Building Inspector's Report on the foregoing matter be received for information and he be advised that Council is not prepared to take action at this time but he may bring it before Council again if he deems it necessary. 5. O.M.B. Hearing - Groenveld THAT it be recommended to Council that Council sustain the appeal of the Planner re Groenveld and the Town be represented at the O.M.B. Hearing on November 12th. - 2 - COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE 6. Party for all Employees in December THAT it be recommended to Council that the Municipality arrange for a party of all employees early in December and Councillor Tink head the Committee with power to act and that the cost to the Municipality not exceed $200. 7. Meetings of Department Heads THAT it be recommended to Council that Department Heads meet on a regular basis and submit recommendations to the Committee of the Whole from time to time. 8. Fencing McLean Cemetery THAT it be recommended to Council that the matter of a fence for McLean Cemetery be tabled until the next Council meeting and the Chairman and the Public Works review 'the situation.
