LOCAL ARCHITECTURAL CONSERVATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
MEMBERSHIP
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council:
1. THAT Report CD-22-98 be received;
2. THAT the composition of the Municipality of Clarington's Local Architectural
Conservation Advisory Committee (LACAC) be amended to allow for a total of
twelve members plus one Council representative;
3. THAT the appropriate by-law be forwarded to Council; and
4. THAT Janie Dodds, Chair, LACAC, be advised of Council's decision.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
At the Council meeting held on February 23, 1998, Janie Dodds, Chair, LACAC
presented an update on the Committee's activities. She indicated that the Committee
is planning on becoming very active in public awareness. The members have been
actively undertaking book research and are now working on the preparation of a
book of historical buildings in the Bowmanville area. In order to assist with these
ambitious endeavours, Mrs. Dodds requested that the membership of the Committee
be increased.

The Ontario Heritage Act states that 'The Council of a municipality may by by-law
establish a Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee composed of not
fewer than five members ..." The Clarington LACAC has consisted of ten members
plus one Council representative, however, in 1995 an additional member was
appointed. The Committee presently consists of ten members plus one Council
representative. Mrs. Dodds has indicated her wish for the addition of two members
at this time.
The Clerk's Department has a number of applications from individuals who have
indicated an interest in this committee. Upon approval of the recommendations
contained within this report, these individuals will be contacted to determine their
continued interest in sitting on the committee.
