1998 Municipal Grants
Approval For Advance
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend
to Council the following:
1. THAT Report TR-31-98 be received, and
2. THAT approval be given for an advance based on a pro-rated amount of the 1997 approved
grant for the 1998 Municipal grant requests listed on Attachment #1 until the 1998 Current
Budget is approved, and
3. THAT the groups listed on Attachment #1 be notified of Council's decision.
Background:
1. The Capital Budget report TR-23-98 was received and approved as amended at the GPA
Meeting of April 6, 1998.
2. Due to the fact that the Municipality is still waiting for numbers from the Province the
Current Budget will be delayed until possibly July or August 1998. It is suggested that some
groups applying for Municipal grants (listed on Attachment #1) be given a pro rated advance
based on their 1997 approved grant until the 1998 Current Budget is approved by Council.
Consistent with past practice, some of the groups have already received a portion of their
prior years grant, on request, in advance of the budget process. However, because of the
anticipated significant delay in the 1998 budget, due to lack of Provincial information, a pro
rated advance is considered reasonable and will allow the groups to continue with normal
operations. Any adjustments required can be reconciled based on the final budget approval,
sometime later in the year.
