AWARD FOR SIDNEY B. RUTHERFORD WOODS/WALK PARK
Recommendations:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend the following to Council:
1. THAT Report CS-20-92 be received for information.
1.0 BACKGROUND:
1. 1 The construction of Phase I of the Sidney B. Rutherford
Woods/Walk Park was initiated in 1991. Staff in conjunction
with a committee of local residents were involved in 1990 and
1991 to develop a park master plan and participate through
consultation in the development of the park.
1. 2 The park master plan was designed by the firm of Cosburn
Gilberson Limited and the park construction was performed by
Pro Lawn Maintenance Limited of Orono. Pro Lawn was under
direct supervision of Town staff who worked in consultation
with the Committee.
2.0 AWARD OF EXCELLENCE:
2.1 Pro Lawn Maintenance Limited is an active member of Landscape
ontario which is an association of ontario LandscaP7
Contractors. Landscape ontario provides an award system to
recognize and promote its members' projects. The
Association's Award Program has approximately twenty-f i ve (25)
categories of awards. Pro Lawn Maintenance Ltd. submitted the
Woods/Walk Park in the category of Public Landscaping for
consideration of an award.

2.2 Landscape ontario at its January 21, 1992 presentations in
Hamilton awarded the sidney B. Rutherford Woods/Walk Park
first prize in this category recognizing both Pro Lawn and Mr.
Andy Gryg, Community services Horticulturist (Attachment A).
2.3 Many persons participated to create the project and any award
is accepted as an award to all those who participated
including staff and Committee members. The quality and
sensitivity to enhance the valley's features is a credit to
all who worked and envisioned the final product.
2.4 It has been the practice of Landscape ontario to feature many
of its first place winners in its trade magazine. Should this
occur in the future we will endeavour to provide copies to
members of Council under separate copy.
