THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN. OF NEWCASTLE
BY-LAW NO. 76-34
Being a by-law to designate certain highways or portions
of highways within the Corporation of the Town of .
Newcastle as "SCHOOL BUS LOADING ZONESu.
WHEREAS subsection 3A of Section 120 of The Highway Traffic
Act, (R.S.O. 1970, Chapter 202) provides that the Council of a
municipality in relation to highways under its jurisdiction may by
by-law designate school bus loading zones, in accordance with the
regulations.
AND WHEREAS Section l7A of Regulation 425 under The Highway
Traffic Act provides that a school bus loading zone may be designated:
a) on one side of a highway, and
'b) on the side of the highway on which
i) a school is situated, or
il) a building or facility is situated which is frequently
visited by school children under supervision of their
teachers.
NO~; THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED AND IT IS HEREBY ENACTED as a
by-law of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle through its Council
~bereof as follows:
10 That the highways or portions of highways set out in Column I
of Schedule "A" to this By-law, on the side of the highway set
out in Column II of the said Schedule, between the limits set
o~t respectively in Columns III and IV of the said Schedule,
and at the school or institution set out in Column V of the said
Schedule, are hereby designated as school bus loading zones.
2.
No person shall stop a vehicle, other than a school bus, within
a deSignated school bus loading zone.

J~' 3. Each of the designations referred to in Schedule "A" shall not
become effective until the highways or portions thereof are
marked to comply with the Regulations made under The Highway
Traffic Act.
4. Any person violating the provisions of Section 2 of this 8y-law
shall be subject to a penalty of not less than five ($5.00) dollar.
and not more than fifty ($50.00) dollars, exclusive of costs.
5. This By-law shall come into force on the date that it is approved
by the Council of The Regional Municipality of Durham and when
signs to the effect are erected.
