By-Law No. 79-37
Being a by-law to provide for the erection of
"STOP" signs at certain intersections within
the Town of Newcastle (formerly Town of
Bowmanville).
WHEREAS Section 89(2) of The Highway Traffic Act CR.S.O. 1970, Chapter 202)
provides that the Council of a Municipality and the Trustees of a Police Village
may, by by-law, provide for the erection of stop signs at intersections on
highways under it's jurisdiction, and every sign so erected shall comply with the
regulations of the Ministry.
NOW WEREFORE BE IT ENACTED AND IT IS HEREBY ENACTED as a by-law of the
Corporation of the Town of Newcastle through it's Council thereof as follows:-
1)
The intersection of highways set out in Column I of Schedule 1 and Schedule
2 attached, are designated as intersections where stop signs shall be
erected facing traffic as shown on Column II of said Schedules.
2)
The penalties provided in Section 152 of the Highway Traffic Act shall
apply to offences against this by-law.
3) This by-law shall come into force on the date that it is approved by the
Council of the Regional Municipality of Durham and when signs to the effect
are erected.
