THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
BY-LAW #79- ;.
being a by-law to permit horse racing within
the Durham Central Agriculture Fair at Orono
on Sunday the 9th day of September, 1979.
WHEREAS The Lord's Day (Ontario) Act, R.S.O. 1970, Chapter
259, Section 2, provides that it is lawful for any person
to conduct a horse race when a by-law is passed authorizing
such horse race;
AND WHEREAS the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle deems
it desirable to pass such a by-law.
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town
of Newcastle hereby ENACTS as follows:
1. Section 2 (2) of The Lord's Day (Ontario) Act, R.S.O.
1970, Chapter 259, as amended, is hereby declared to be in
force for the purpose of horse racing, on the 9th day of
September, 1979, in that area of the Town of Newcastle being
composed of Lots 9 and 14, Block M, part of Park Street,
part of Princess Street, and part of undivided Township Lot
28, Concession 5, all according to C.G. Hanning's Plan of
the former Village of Orono, and being known as the Orono
Fair Grounds.
2. Regulations - The horse racing permitted pursuant to
Section 1 hereof shall be conducted in accordance with the
following conditions:
(i) no horse race shall be commenced before
1:30 o'clock in the afternoon and shall
not continue after 11:00 o'clock in the
afternoon on September 9th, 1979;
(ii) no horse race shall continue into Sunday
the 9th day of September, 1979, from the
previous day;
(iii)
the horse race and all related activities
shall be conducted in an orderly and seemly
manner;

the horse race shall be subject to the Race
Commission Act and to the regulations made
thereunder and in accordance with all other
restrictions lawfully imposed by any govern-
mental authority having jurisdiction to make
such restrictions.
