THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
BY-LAW NO. 81- 116
Being a by-law of the Corporation of
the Town of Newcastle to establish the
position of Deputy~Director of Planning.
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of
the Town of Newcastle wishes to establish the position of
Deputy-Director of Planning;
NOW THEREFORE THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE BY
ITS COUNCIL, ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. The position of "Deputy-Director of
Planning" is hereby established;
2. The position shall have the duties and
responsibilities as set out in Schedule "A"
to this by-law;

3. The position shall be compensated according
to the Townls policy in respect of
non-union salaries.
BY-LAW READ a first time this 8th day of September, 1981.
BY-LAW READ a second time this 8th day of September, 1981.
BY-LAW READ a third time and FINALLY PASSED this 8th day of September,

POSITION TITLE:
Deputy-Director of Planning
DEPARTMENT:
Planning
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Directly responsible to the Director
of Planning for the administration
of the Planning Division of the
Department of Planning, including the
preparation of reports to Town Council
and standing committees of Council
on planning matters before the Town.
WORK PERFORMED:
1.
Responsible for the administration of
the Planning Division under the general
direction of the Director of Planning
including:
a) Preparing budget submissiom and
work programs.

b) Reviewing and making recommendations
with regard to personnel matters.
c) Overseeing the activities and
operations of the Planning Division on
a routine basis including the
supervision of staff.
2 .
Preparation of reports and recommendations
in respect of long term and current
operations planning matters including
processing of development applications
and the preparation of long term planning
(policy) documents. Responsible for
undertaking specific research projects
and studies as may be required.
3.
Responsible for representing the
municipality at municipal board hearings
and other administrative tribunals as
may be necessary and appropriate.
4.
Responsible for preparing and
making presentations to Council as
may be required.
5.
Other specific responsibilities as
may be assigned by the Director of
Planning and/or the Chief Administrative
Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS
1.
A degree in Urban and Regional Planning or
related discipline from a recognized University
programme.
2.
A minimum of three (3) years of responsible
planning experience at the municipal level.
3.
Proven written and oral communications
skills, including proven ability to communicate
effectively with other staff and the public.
4.
Eligibility for membership in the Canadian
Institute of Planning.
