CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
BY-LAW 83-163
being a by-law of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle
to establish the position of Platoon Chief
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle wishes
to establish the position of Platoon Chief:
NOW THEREFORE the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle by its Council
ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. The position of Platoon Chief is hereby established;
2. The position shall have the duties and responsibilities as set out
in Schedule ItAIt to this by-law;
3. The position shall be compensated according to the Town's
policy in respect of non-union salaries.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF PLATOON CHIEF,
TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
Under the direction of the Fire Chief the Platoon Chief will in part supervise
office support staff, and all of the Fire Chief's subordinates as necessary
to assist and relieve the Fire Chief.
The Platoon Chief will be responsible for:
1. The personnel, administration and management of the Department, including
safety matters in accordance with the policies and procedures of the
Corporation of the Town of Newcastle and Fire Department;
2. The procurement and control of supplies, the maintenance and repair
of facilities and equipment;
3. Formulation and recommendation of proposals for improvement of
facilities, equipment and methods;
4. The investigation of deviation from rules and regulations and the
recommendation of necessary action;
5. Responding to all fire alarms and taking charge in the absence of
the Fire Chief;
6. Conducting in-service fire prevention inspections and enforcement
of the Ontario Fire Code of all classes of occupancy;
7. Participate in conducting training sessions monthly at all fire stations;
8. Conduct pre-fire planning operations;
9. Organizing and conducting Fire Safety courses as required;
10. Generally managing the ongoing operations of the Department on behalf
of the Fire Chief and acting in his stead in his absence.
