THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
BY-LAW 88-170
being a by-law to designate the property
k.nown municipally as "The William Ormiston
House" located in Part of Lot 29, Concession
7, former Township of Darlington, now in the
Town of Newcastle, Regional Municipality of Durham
as a property of architectural and historical
value and interest which land is more particularly
described in attached schedule.
WHEREAS the Ontario Heritage Act, 1974, authorizes the Council of a
municipality to enact by-laws to designate real property including all
the buildings and structures thereon to be of architectural and historical
interest; and
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle has caused
to be served upon the owner of the lands and premises known as liThe William
Ormiston House", located in Part of Lot 29, Concession 7, former Township
of Darlington, now in the Town of Newcastle, and upon the Ontario Heritage
Foundation, Notice of Intention to Designate the aforesaid real property
and has caused such notice of intention to be published in the Canadian
Statesman, a newspaper having a general circulation in the area of the
designation, once each week for three consecutive weeks namely, September
28, October 5 and October 12, 1988; and
WHEREAS "The William Ormiston House" in Part of Lot 29, Concession 7, former
Township of Darlington has a very significant architectural value of interest
to the Town of Newcastle and its people in that the Gothic Centre Gable
House dates from 1855 and retains many original features, the centre gable
with its lacy gingerbread, the original o.g. arched window in the gable,
the unusual transom above the front door which features the arched gothic
motif, the sidelights on the front door with their rectangular glazing,
the returned eaves, a fine tin ceiling and original wainscotting in what
is currently the parlor and the original wainscotting in the lower rear
wing of the house, the pine floor made of 6-inch pine, the inside basement
door and the inside four-panelled doors, are being specifically designated
as being of architectural value; and
WHEREAS the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee of the Town
of Newcastle has recommended that the property "The Wi 11 iam Ormiston House",
Part of lot 29, Concession 7, former Township of Darlington be designated
under the terms of the Ontario Heritage Act; and
WHEREAS no notice of objection to the proposed designation has been served
upon the Clerk of the Municipality;
NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE HEREBY
ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. There is designated as being of architectural and historical value
of interest, the real property known municipally as "The William
Ormiston Housell, Part of Lot 29, Concession 7, former Township of
Darlington, now in the Town of Newcastle in the Regional Municipality
of Durham.
2. The Municipal Solicitor is hereby authorized to cause a copy of this
by-law to be registered against the property described in the preceeding
paragraph, in the proper land registry office.

3. The Town Clerk is hereby authorized to cause a copy of this by-law to be
served upon the owners of the aforesaid property and on the Ontario Heritage
Foundation, and to cause notice of the passing of this by-law to be
publiShed in the Canadian Statesman, a newspaper having general
circulation in the area of the designation, once each week for three
consecutive weeks.

SCHEDULE
ALL AND SINGULAR that certain parcel or tract of land and
premises situate lying and being in the Town of Newcastle
(former Township of Darlington) in the Regional Municipality
of Durham and being composed of the North half of lot 29 in
the 7th Concession containing in all by admeasurement 100
acres more or less.
