Saviour's Anglican Church", located at 23 Mill street North, Block "Q", Lot 8, C.G. Hanning Plan, former Township of Clarke, now in the Town of Newcastle, Regional Municipality of Durham, as a property of architectural and historical value and interest which property is more particularly described in the schedule attached WHEREAS the Ontario Heritage Act, 1974, authorizes the Council of a municipality to enact by-laws to designate real property including all the buildings and structures thereon to be of architectural and historical interest; and WHEREAS the Council of the corporation of the Town of Newcastle has caused to be served upon the owner of the lands and premises known as 23 Mill Street, Block "Q", Lot 8, C.G. Hanning Plan, former Township of Clarke, now in the Town of Newcastle and upon the Ontario Heritage Foundation, Notice of Intention to Designate the aforesaid real property and has caused such notice of intention to be published in the Newcastle Independent, a newspaper having a general circulation in the area of the designation, once each week for three consecutive weeks, namely, March 15, March 22 and March 29, 1989; and WHEREAS "st. Saviour's Anglican Church", located at 23 Mill Street North, Block "Q", C.G. Hanning Plan, former Township of Clarke, has a very significant architectural value of interest to the Town of Newcastle and its people in that the church was built in 1869, is a modest yet appealing example of Gothic Revival Architecture. The well preserved brick work, executed in the common bond style with pilasters and horizontal rows of decorative corbelling; a coursed fieldstone foundation; the original pine doors on the entrance; the large Gothic windows on three sides and the simple decorative brackets under the eaves; the timbered tongue and groove ceiling of Tudor design; the reredos, screen and altar rail; the original pine floor and decorative iron grates; the pine wainscotting; and the pews which retain the original sponge graining architectural value; and WHEREAS the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee of the Town of Newcastle has recommended that the property "St. Saviour'S Anglican Church", 23 Mill street North, Block "Q", Lot 8, C.G. Hanning Plan, former Township of Clarke, now in the Town of Newcastle, Regional Municipality of Durham, be designated under the terms of the Ontario Heritage Act; and WHEREAS no notice of objection to the proposed designation has been served upon the Clerk of the Municipality; NOW THEREFORE THE COUNCIL OF THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: 1. There is designated as being of Architectural and Historical value of interest, the real property known municipally as "St. Saviour's Anglican Church", 23 Mill Street North, Block "Q", Lot 8, C.G. Hanning Plan, former Township of Clarke, Regional Municipality of Durham. 2. The Municipal Solicitor is hereby authorized to cause a copy of this by-law to be registered against the property described in the preceeding paragraph. 3. The Town Clerk is hereby authorized to cause a copy of this by-law to be served upon the owners of the aforesaid property and on the Ontario Heritage Foundation, and to cause notice of the passing of this by-law to be publiShed in the Newcastle Independent, and Orono Weekly Times, newspapers having general circulation in the area of the designation, once each week for three consecutive weeks.
