HomeMy WebLinkAbout86-86 " ~ THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE BY -LAW NUMBER 86- 86 being a By-law of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle to re-establish the position of Deputy Director of Planning. WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle wishes to re-establish the position of Deputy Director of Planning; NOW THEREFORE THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE BY ITS COUNCIL ENACTS AS FOLLOWS: 1. The pOSition of Deputy Director of Planning is hereby re-established; 2. The position shall have the duties and responsibilities as set out in Schedul e IIA II to thi s by-1 aw; 3. The position shall be compensated according to the Town's policy in respect of non-union salaries (Salary Grade 13); 4. By-law 81-116 is hereby repealed. LL- ~ ' MAYOR ~~ CLERK -- ,,- #- SCHEDULE IIAII TO BY-LAW 86- 86 JOB DESCRIPTION: Deputy Director of Planning SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Directly responsible to the Director of Planning for the administration of the Planning Department, including the preparation of reports to the General Purpose and Administration Committee and Town Council on planning matters before the Town. RESPONSIBILITY : 1. Responsible for the administration of the Planning Department under the general direction of the Director of Planning and during his absence. 2. Overseeing the daily activities and operations of the Planning Department staff on a routine basis including the supervision of staff. 3. Preparation of reports and recommendations in respect of planning matters including overseeing the processing of development applications and the preparation of long term planning (policy) documents. Responsible for undertaking specific research projects and studies as may be required. 4. Responsible for representing the municipality at Municipal Board Hearings and other admi ni strati ve trib un al s as may be n eces sary and ap propri ate. 5. Responsible for preparing and making presentations to Council as mqy be required. 6. Other specific responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Planning and/or the Chief Administrative Officer. 7. In the absence of the Director of Planning assume the normal duties of the Director including the si gning or approval of documents. QUAL IFICATIONS: 1. A degree in urban and Regional Planning or related discipline from a recognized university program. 2. A minimum of three (3) years of responsible planning experience at the municipal level. 3. Proven written and oral communications skills, including proven ability to conmunicate effectively with other staff and the public. 4. Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planning.
