THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
BY-LAW NO. 82-22
being a by-law of the Corporation of the Town
of Newcastle to establish the position of
Executive Secretary to the Mayor
WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle wishes
to establish the position of Executive Secretary to the Mayor;
NOW THEREFORE the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle by its Council
ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. The position of "Executive Secretary to the Mayor" is
hereby established;
2. The position shall have the duties and responsibilities
as set out in Schedule "A" to this by-law;
3. The position shall be compensated according to the Town's
policy in respect of non-union salaries.

SCHEDULE "A" TO
BY -LAW # 82- 22
POSITION TITLE:
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Executive Secretary to the Mayor
Directly responsible to the Mayor for
confidential and general secretarial
duties related to the Office of the Mayor.
WORK PERFORMED:
1. Organization and maintenance of personal
records on behalf of the Mayor, and Members
of Council as required. Liaison with various
Departments of the Town on matters affecting
the office of Mayor and business of Council.
2. Background research preparation of information
and correspondence for the Mayor and Members of
Council. Information and correspondence may be
of a confidential nature.
3. Receptionist duties including the provision of
general information and assistance to the public.
4. Scheduling of meetings on behalf of the Mayor
and Members of Council.
5. Scheduling of meetings in the Council Library
and maintenance of a record of the general use
of the Library.
6. Other duties as may be assigned by the Mayor.
QUALI FICA TI ONS :
1. Minimum of Grade 12, Junior Matriculation, or
the equivalent combination of skills and
experience.
2. Five (5) years of office experience with at
least two (2) years in a confidential secretarial
capacity.
3. Knowledge of municipal affairs at the local
level.
4. Knowledge of office procedures, proficiency
in shorthand, dictaphone and knowledge of other
business machines and procedures.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with
other staff and the general public.
