BY-LAW 82-153.
being a by-law to establish the position of Confidential
Secretary to the Director of Public Works.
The Municipal Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle
HEREBY ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. That the position of Confidential Secretary
to the Director of Public Works is hereby
established in accordance with the duties
and responsibilities as set out in Schedule
"A" attached hereto.
2. That the position shall be compensated according
to the Town's Policy in respect of Non-Union
salaries.

SCHEDULE "A" TO BY-LAW 82-153.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE
CONFIDENTIAL SECRETARY TO THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS.
Summary of Duties.
Responsible to the Director of Public Works for daily secretarial
duties for the Public Works Department, including reception,
telephone reception, and relaying of messages to appropriate staff,
typing, filing, confidential matters and general procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Recei vi ng, recordi ng and rel ayi ng i ncomi ng enqul r1 es.
2. Dealing with items of concern to the calling public.
3. Typing of reports and correspondence for the Director
and Department, including items related to confidential
matters.
4. Maintenance of files and records, including personnel
information.
5. Receipt and dispersal of correspondence and other
data, as directed.
6. Arranging and maintaining a record of appointments
for the Director.
7. Assisting in response to enquiries and concerns, as
necessary.
8. Liaising with other Town of Newcastle Departments,
Public Works' Staff, outside levels of Government,
other Agencies and the private sector.
9. Related duties as may be assigned by the Director.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of senior matriculation or equivalent
education and experience. Secretarial skills and
familiarity with word processing systems.
2. Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a senior
secretarial office position.
3. Senior stenographical skills.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with other staff
and the public.
5. Valid Ontario Driver's Licence required.
