BY-LAW NO. 80- 64 BEING A BY-lAW TO AOOPI' THE ESTIMATES OF ALL SUMS REQJIRED DURING THE YEAR AND TO STRIKE THE RATES OF TAXATION FOR THE YEAR 1980 WHEREAS, the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle has, in accordance with the Municipal Act, considered the estimates of the Municipality and of the Boards and CallIlissions of the Municipality and it is necessary that the follo.ving sums be raised by means of taxation for the year 1980. General Purposes Area Rates Regional Purposes Elenentary School Separate School Secondary School 2,983,726 299,203 1,749,602 2,974,116 180,155 2,415,293 10,602,095 AND WHEREAS, the Asses:::ment Roll made in 1970 and upon which the 1980 taxes are to be levied is the latest returned assesenent r.oll, which roll is: still subject to revision by the Court of Revision; AND WHEREAS the amount of Assesenent entitled to benefit hereinafter to be referred to as Residential and Fann, and the amount of Assesenent not entitled to benefit fran unconditional grants in accordance with Sections 302 and 307 of the Municipal Act hereinafter referred to as Carmercial and Business, is as follows : RESIDENTIAL AND FARM cn.1MERCIAL AND BUSINESS 'IUl'AL Elenentary School Separate School Seconary School 28,273,210 2,205,510 30,478,720 35,209,905 2,374,290 37,584,195 6,936,695 168,780 7,105,475 Provided that the rate levied for the purpose of: (a) street lighting (b) garbage collection ( c) garbage disposal shall be levied on the taxable assesenent of the area to which they apply. THEREFORE, the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle enacts as follows: 1. That the estimated expenditures required during the year 1980 totalling 13,347,659 less the estimated revenue (including deficits) totalling 2,745,564.leaving a net amount of 10,602,095be adopted and the following amounts be levied therefore in the manner as set out hereunder: IJ .';; . . . - 2 - General Purposes Area Rate Regional Purposes ElEmentary School Separate School Secondary School 2,983,726 299,203 1,749,602 2,974,116 180,155 2,415,293 10,602,095 2. There shall be levied and collected upon the assessable land, buildings, and businesses within the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle, the following rates f or this year 1980. All taxes, including local :improvEment assessnents, shall be deEmed to have been :imposed and becane due and payable on the 1st day of January 1980 but may be paid in four installments, of which installments, two will be to receive inter:im taxes levied under authority of By-Law No. 74-23, 4. The remaining taxes including local :improvEment assessnents, after deduction of taxes levied prior to the adoption of these estimates may be paid in two installments on the 11th day of August 1980 and the 6th day of October 1980. . . There shall be imposed a penalty for nrn-payment of taxes on the due date of any installment thereof, the amount of 1!% of the amount due and unpaid on the first day of each calendar rIDnth thereafter in which default continues, but after the end of the year in which the taxes are levied, under authority of By-Law 74-19, 6. The Tax Collector is hereby authorized to mail or cause to be mailed the notice of taxes due to the address of the residence or place of business of the person to whan not ice is required to be given. 7. All 1980 taxes shall be paid during the calendar year of 1980 at any branch of the Canadian Imperial Bank of CaIIIlerce in the Regional Municipality of Durham and Town of Port Hope only. All prior years taxes shall be paid into the office of the Treasurer. 8. The Tax Collector and Treasurer are hereby empowered to accept part payment fran time to time on accOilllt of any taxes due. 9. This by-law shall cane into force and effect upon the date of the final reading thereof. READ A FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD TIME AND FINALLY PASSED THIS 13th DAY OF May , 1980. MAYOR CLERK
