BY-LAW 80-144
being a by-law to restrict the weight of vehicles
passing over a bridge
WHEREAS Subsection 12 of section 77 of The Highway Traffic Act
(R.S.O. 1970, Chapter 202) provides that:
The municipal corporation or other authority haVing
jurisdiction over a bridge may by by-law approved by the
Department make regulations limiting the weight of any
vehicle or combination of vehicles or any class thereof
passing over such bridge;
AND WHEREAS it is deemed expedient to limit the weight of vehicles
passing over a bridge in the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle
enacts as follows:
1. No vehicle or combination of vehicles or any class
thereof, whether empty or loaded, shall be operated
over the bridge know as Hampton Mill Bridge at
Lot 18, Concession 5 (Darlington) on Mill Street
in the Corporation of the Town of Newcastle with a
weight in excess of Three Tonnes
2. This by-law shall not become effective until approved
by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications
and until a notice of the limit of the weight
permitted, legibly printed, has been posted up in a
conspicuous place at each end of the bridge.

Restricting the Weight of Vehicles Over Hampton Mill Bridge
The above-mentioned by law is returned herewith duly approved
by the Minister of Transportation and Communications pursuant to
Sectin 77, Subsection 12 of The Highway Traffic Act R.S.O. 1970
ch. 202 as amended.
The restriction is effective for a period of one year expiring on
January the 27th, 1982.
