By-Law
No 74-23
n by-law to authorize a levy on the whole
of the assessment for real property and
business prior to adoption of the annual
estimates.
~mEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of
Newcastle deems it a convenience to the taxpayer and economical to
adopt a system of interim tax billing,
Nmr THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town
of Newcastle, pursuant to the provisions of Section 303-(1) of the
Uunicipal Act. F..C.O. 1970 Chapter 284 hereby EN/leTS AS FOLLOtTS:
1. There shall be levied on the whole of the assessmeat for
real property and business according to the last revised assessment
roll and before the acoption of the estimates for the year, a sum
not exceeding 50 per cent of that which would be produced by
applying to such assessment the total rate for all purposes
levied in the preceecHng year on residential real property of
public schoe1 supporters.
2. The taxes so 1eviec shall ve deemed to have been imposed and
become due and payable on the 1st day of January in each year, but
may be paid in two instalments, the first instalment being du~~n;
or about the 15th day March and the second instalment due on or about
the 15th day of May. I ~
3. There saal1 be imposed a penalty for non-payment of any taxes
on the due date of any instalment thereof, the amount of 1 per cent
of the amount clue and unpaid on the first clay of deliault and an
additional 1 per cent shall be added on the first day of each
calendar month thereafter in which default continues, but not
after the end of the year in wh!ch the taxes are levied.

4. The Collector is herehy authorized to mail or cause to be
mailed the notice of taxes Que to the acor0ss Df the residence
or place of business of the person to whom notice is required to
be given.
5. THAT all by-lavIs of the Tovmship of Darlington, the Town
of Bowmanvillc, the Township of 6lar:ce and the Village of
Newcastle not consistent with this by-law and are hereby
repealed.
6. This by-1al'; shall come into force anc effect upon the elate
of the final rca0ing thereof.
