YL 7(0) CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE 40 TEMPERANCE STREET BOWMANVILLE, ONTARIO L1 3A6 TELEPHONE 623-3379 REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING HELD FEBRUARY 6 1984 ADMIN. 84 - 13 SUBJECT: Activities of Bicentennial Committee RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee meeting recommend to Council the following: 1. That this report be received; 2. That Council agrees that no monies will be authorized for expenditure from the Bicentennial Funds ($10,000.00) provided by the Province of Ontario without first referring such matters to the Bicentennial Committee with the request for their recommendation; 3. That Council supply staffing for the Bicentennial Committee either through the Tourism Office or byuproviding a maximum of $2,000.00 for part-time staff; and 4. That the Bicentennial Committee be advised of Council's actions. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: The Bicentennial Committee has met to discuss various projects that might be undertaken as part of the Bicentennial Celebrations. Members of the Committee, together with Staff are currently examining a number of projects that may be worthwhile sponsoring as municipal Bicentennial ventures. To date, the Committee has received requests from private groups to support individual Bicentennial efforts. However, given the limited funding available to the Committee, ($10,000.00), the Committee has decided that funding of such individual projects would not be appropriate at this time. Mr. Herb Tink has been appointed as Chairman of the Bicentennial Committee and will be reporting to Council from time to time on the status of the various projects. In the interim, it was felt appropriate to clarify acs) ADMIN. 84 - 13 -2- certain matters with respect to the relationship of the Bicentennial Committee to Council where Bicentennial related funding requests may be received directly by Council. The co-ordinative role df the Bicentennial Committee would be hampered if a clear understanding of the disposition of Bicentennial funds is not reached. It is for this reason that the report is being brought forward at this time. Respectfully submitted, DSJ:nof David Johnston, M.C.I.P. Chief Administrative Officer
