CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
40 TEMPERANCE STREET
BOWMANVILLE, ONTARIO

REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING HELD FEBRUARY 6 1984
ADMIN. 15 - 84
SUBJECT:
OPENING CEREMONIES FOR NEWLY
CONSTRUCTED ORONO FIRE HALL
TELEPHONE 623-3379
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration
Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. That this report be received;
2. That the opening of the Orono Fire Hall be scheduled for
February 24th 1984 at the hour of 3:00 p.m.,
3. That staff be authorized to make the necessary arrangements
for the opening consistent with those that were made for the
opening of the Courtice and Newcastle Fire Stations.
4. That the monies required to a maximum of $500.00 be drawn
from the Receptions and Tributes Account #7007-0235-X-5.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Construction has been substantially completed at the Orono Fire Hall.
Certain aspects of the construction, i.e, landscaping, will have to wait until
spring -time. However, it would be appropriate to make arrangements for an
official opening.
In discussing this matter with the Engineering Consultant and the Fire Chief
it is suggested that the opening be in the latter part of February. Such
timing will allow the recently painted floor to have sufficient time to
properly dry. At the same time, the snow and cold weather should still be
with us, so the site should not be muddy.
The consultant is providing a plaque to be installed in the Fire Hall, which
has already been ordered.
In reviewing this matter, I have looked at the programs for the openings of the two
previous Fire Halls, Courtice and Newcastle, and feel that it would be k
appropriate to have a similar opening for the Orono Hall.
