REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION
COMMITTEE MEETING HELD FEBRUARY 20 1984
ADMIN. 22 - 84
SUBJECT: CORPORATION OF THE VILLAGE OF COLBORNE
BICENTENNIAL RUN
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. That this report be received;
2. That the matter of the Village of Colborne's Bicentennial
Run be referred to the Bicentennial Committee with
authorization to take appropriate action with respect
to suitably acknowledging participants in the Run;
3. That the Village of Colborne be notified that the matter
has been referred to the Bicentennial Committee and
requesting the Village to contact this committee through
the Chief Administrative Officer's office, once further
details of the Run become available.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
At the Monday, February 13th 1984 Council meeting, an invitation to
participate in Colborne's Bicentennial Run was referred to the
Chief Administrative Officer for a report to the General Purpose
and Administration Committee.
I have since spoken to the author of the letter of invitation. At
this point in time, plans have not been finalized for either the
nature or the time of the Bicentennial Run. It was suggested that
it would likely be towards the end of June, possibly on June 30th
that the Run would be staged.
ADMIN. 22- 84 -2-
It is envisaged at this point in time that there will be a
relay of runners running from Toronto and Kingston. It':was
suggested that each runner would run approximately 5 miles.
The Clerk/Treasurer of the Village of Colborne did indicate, however,
that interest. . had been quite strong from various jogging groups and
as such the format of the Run may be altered. I indicated to her
that the Town was most interested in the project but at this point
in time it was difficult to indicate how we might participate in the
Run or suitably acknowledge,it, as the format of the Run had not been
established. By referring the matter to the Bicentennial Committee
with authority to act, the Town will be able to monitor the plans of
the Village with respect to this matter and appropriately respond.
Respectfully submitted,
DSJ:nof David Johnston, M.C.I.P.,
Chief Administrative Officer
